Located in the Georgian market town Richmond, North Yorkshire, this Grade II listed period house dates back to the 1700s and was refurbished in 2019. The house has been finished to the highest standard throughout and is equipped with all the modern conveniences you need in a luxury dog-friendly holiday home in Yorkshire. Step inside from the cobbled street to find wonderful high ceilings and a perfect balance of modern living and Georgian features.
The kitchen looks out over the courtyard, and is well-equipped with everything you might need for a self-catering break in Yorkshire, including: a wine fridge and dishwasher as well as a fridge freezer. Make sure to bring your favourite coffee to make use of the Nespresso coffee machine. The electric Aga is perfect for baking or making Sunday lunch. In the separate dining room, easily gather around the antique table for your meals together.
The impressive staircase leads up to the first-floor sitting room. Sumptuous sofas and chairs in front of the open fire make it all too tempting to pop on the TV for a lazy afternoon after a walk in the nearby Yorkshire Dales. There is plenty of space for everyone to come together, and the warm soft colour tones make for a peaceful retreat.
The South facing courtyard is a sunny spot for evenings. Relax on the outdoor seating or cook on the BBQ in warmer months. Go through the courtyard to find the den; a fun hideaway with a traditional-looking electric fire and comfy leather chairs. Outside is the wood store and a brazier that can be fired up all year round.
There is a handy ground floor WC. In the cellar, you’ll find the utility room and a travel cot and highchair available for young families.

The first-floor bedroom boasts a large period window that overlooks the courtyard. This room features natural shades with touches of colour and has plenty of storage, a sumptuous king-sized bed, and original shutters, giving it plenty of character. Follow the stairs up to the second floor to find two further bedrooms. The larger bedroom has an original fireplace, a king-sized bed, and looks out over Frenchgate. The third bedroom is smaller, with an angled ceiling, traditional wooden beams and a cosy double bed. This room is particularly cosy. All beds come with high-quality bed linen, hypoallergenic pillows, luxurious throws and cushions to guarantee a blissful nights’ sleep
The modern bathroom has a large slipper bath, making an evening spent pure relaxation very tempting. Beyond the bath, the window offers views over Frenchgate and the Richmond hills beyond. There is a separate large walk-in rainfall shower to add to the luxuries.
This dog-friendly holiday home in Yorkshire has a locally sourced welcome hamper for guests on arrival. A starter pack of items under the kitchen sink and in the washroom, where there’s a washing machine, dryer and iron, will get you going. In the kitchen is a fridge freezer, dishwasher, electric Aga, and Bluetooth radio. The Wi-Fi stretches around the house, and bed linen, towels and toiletries are included.
On-street free parking is right outside, available on a first come first serve basis. Porte House is a twenty-minute drive to Northallerton train station and once in Richmond, there’s plenty to do on foot.

For groups, easily combine Porte House with the five-bedroom 30 Frenchgate just over the road.
On your luxury break, take in some of the local sights and the fantastic North Yorkshire pubs and restaurants locally. It is a few minutes’ stroll into the heart of Richmond or to idyllic riverside walks. Explore Richmond Castle, the museums, the large cobbled marketplace, and the thriving shops, pubs and restaurants.
As Saturdays are market day in the centre of the Market Place, be sure to pick up a few local Yorkshire products before you head home. We recommend a walk along the River Swale to The Station with its award-winning bakery, a great café and fantastic cinema.
Richmond is known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. with interesting walks, abbeys, castles, pretty villages and great pubs. Explore the beautiful market towns, rent bikes for the day from Reeth, and go walking with the dog by Jervaulx Abbey.
