About Maison Cottage

Maison Cottage is a beautiful Grade-II listed property in a sought-after area of Richmond. The luxurious standard of accommodation sleeps up to four people in two double bedrooms and is child and dog-friendly, and ideal for couples, families or friends. Combined with a location that is within walking distance of shops, cafes and friendly pubs like Number 29 Alehouse & Gin Bar and The Kings Heads, as well as fantastic views from the cottage and garden, it is no surprise that Maison Cottage is so popular.

The cottage is named after its address on Maison Dieu in the old part of Richmond, enjoying an elevated position and beautiful views over the town and surrounding countryside. It is easy to explore on foot, wandering down the hill to discover historic buildings, interesting museums, a cobbled market square (market day is Saturday), quirky boutiques and independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Walk or cycle beside the River Swale to Richmond Castle, passing waterfalls and other picturesque sights along the way.

Richmond is ideally located for exploring North Yorkshire, being close to both the Yorkshire Dales National Park as well as the North York Moors National Park, both of which have spectacular scenery and lots of ways to be outdoors and active above ground and below. Walking, caving, mountain biking, horse riding, rock climbing and golf are all popular pastimes, and with the coast an hour's drive from the cottage, you can spend a day swimming at the beach if you feel like it when you wake up.

The owners of Maison Cottage have created a home-away-from-home that is both luxurious and relaxing, with high-quality furnishings that complement the age of the property while meeting the expectations of contemporary guests. Accommodation Comprises:

Maison Cottage is a Grade II listed property on a quiet residential street within walking distance of the town centre. Although it is a period property, the owners have sympathetically updated and decorated it to have a fresh, contemporary feel. Luxurious touches include a welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies, and high quality linen and towels.

Downstairs:

  • Living room with comfortable furnishings and a electric fire which will warm your toes on a chilly evening as you settle back with a glass of wine and your favourite book or box set.
  • Dining room with a glass door that opens onto the garden and which frames the stunning views of the River Swale and North Yorkshire countryside.
  • Galley kitchen fitted with modern appliances and a clever layout that makes cooking easy. A door opens onto the south-facing garden and there are beautiful views from the window.

Upstairs:

  • Two spacious king-sized bedrooms, each with proper storage and breathtaking views.
  • Separate bathroom with a free-standing bath, walk-in shower, WC, handbasin, and arguably the best view of any bathroom in Richmond!

Outside: Steps lead from the kitchen and dining room to the garden at the rear of the cottage which has mature flowering plants and views of the Swaledale Valley. There are loungers for sunny days and a fire pit to keep you warm while stargazing or eating outdoors in cooler weather.

Additional Information: Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior agreement from the owner. All utilities, WiFi, sheets and towels are provided. Short breaks are possible depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted.
