Tweed Rig is spacious and modern with fantastic views and an acre of private garden. It is within walking distance of the centre of Gattonside and the River Tweed, and with five bedrooms sleeping up to nine adults, plus two children, it is ideal for large families and groups of friends who want to enjoy walking, fishing and exploring the beautiful Scottish Borders.
Gattonside is a friendly riverside village. It is an ideal place to stay if you want space and big sky views, to fill your lungs with fresh air and be able to stride out into the Eildon Hills or fish on one of the most famous rivers in Britain, the mighty River Tweed. The long-distance St Cuthbert's Way footpath passes close by, opening up the breathtaking landscape to intrepid walkers whose efforts are rewarded with far reaching views and a peaceful sense of solitude.
Shops, pubs and other amenities are just a mile west in the lively market town of Melrose. The Romans arrived in 79 CE and immediately saw the strategic value of the area. Visitors can find out more about the Romans and their influence at the Trimontium Museum in the Three Hills Roman Heritage Centre. It may feel all serene and peaceful now, but the Scottish Borders has seen its fair share of strife over the centuries, and the magnificent castles like those at Selkirk and Kelso once served a purpose beyond a good spot for a day's sightseeing. If grand buildings are your idea of a perfect day out then make sure you include Floors Castle, Melrose Abbey and Abbotsford House in your itinerary.
Edinburgh is just over an hour's drive from Tweed Rig and there is a regular train service that runs directly from Melrose to the city centre, making it a breeze to spend a few days exploring the sights of the nation's capital. The beach at Berwick-upon-Tweed is also about an hour away, so a day at the coast is also possible.
Staying at Tweed Rig means you can plan a holiday or milestone celebration to suit everyone, offering plenty of activities to satisfy all interests and lots of space where people can congregate and enjoy spending time together.
