Greenloaning Cottage Licence No: SB00045F has everything couples or families could want in a comfortable holiday home in the Scottish borders. The semi-detached cottage is on the fringes of Allanton, a tranquil village in a conservation area close to where Blackadder Water and Whiteadder Water meet. The two-bedroom cottage sleeps four people, with guests having direct access to beautiful walks and bike rides from the door. The excellent village pub, the award-winning Allanton Inn, is a short stroll from Greenloaning and, with some of the area's best attractions within easy reach, it's a perfect choice for a relaxing holiday.
Allanton is popular all year round, not only for the scenery but also for the gorgeous landscape and its many fascinating connections to famous Scots. For example, did you know that Sir Walter Scott, one of the nation's most prolific writers and the man responsible for making tartan fashionable, lived in Abbotsford House? Despite the house's scale and grandeur, he took the secrets of his debt to his grave. Or what about Robert the Bruce, whose heart is rumoured to be interred within the ruins of Melrose Abbey. You don't need the drama of the Highlands mountains to experience the "true" Scotland because the Borders has it all. Edin's Hall Broch is a rare southern example of an Iron Age roundhouse unique to Scotland. When the First Scottish War of Independence started, its first significant conflict was in 1314 when Roxburgh Castle was besieged by English soldiers disguised as cows.
Walking, mountain biking, fishing and golf are all typical activities enjoyed by guests of Greenloaning Cottage. St Abbs Harbour is renowned amongst divers for its crystal clear waters, while Foxlake is a top choice for wakeboarding, Segways trails, and other exciting activities. Other local attractions include Alnwick Castle, St Marys Loch, Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, and Floors Castle. Whatever the weather, there's always something fun to do and beautiful to look at.
Greenloaning Cottage is available for bookings all year round. Well-behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement and no surcharge. Short breaks are possible outside of peak season, depending on availability.
