Maggie is perfect for anyone who feels a holiday cottage is a little removed from nature but finds camping in a tent too close for comfort. Step back in time in this charming 1947 Streamlite Rover caravan, one of only a handful left in the UK and the only one with wheels from an original WWII Spitfire. The owners have fitted this beautiful girl out with your comfort in mind, parking her in a private orchard near the shelter of a tree that must be at least a century old. Highlights include fantastic rural views, a two-burner stove, so you don't have to go outside to make yourself a cup of tea on a cold morning, and an incredibly tranquil location near Vowchurch village, just a stone's throw from the Welsh border. It's perfect for a romantic self-catering glamping holiday in Herefordshire.
Vowchurch is more a hamlet than a village, with less than 200 people lucky enough to call it home. Apart from the far-reaching views of the Black Mountains, the main feature is St Bartholomew's Church, which dates from Norman times with some interesting additions over the centuries. The location is a blissful antidote to busy towns and cities yet is far from isolated. You're only 12 miles from Hereford, 13 miles from the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye and less than half an hour from the Brecon Beacon's National Park. Vowchurch is in an area known as the Golden Valley, a place revered by walkers for the multitude of footpaths and the scale of the views. Walk along rural paths past undulating fields and farmland, or work up a thirst for some Herefordshire cider climbing hills like the Cat's Back. The popularity of walking, hiking, rambling and strolling is celebrated in an annual walking festival every June.
There is plenty to keep you happily occupied every day of your stay at Maggie. Browse in Hay-on-Wye's specialist independent book stores, admire the ancient Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral, kayak on the River Wye, or cycle through the spectacular Brecon Beacons. Maggie is one of two glamping units at Cothill Barns, where the owners also have two self-catering cottages. All are private and self-contained, and you can book them together to accommodate bigger groups of family or friends, depending on availability.
