About Old Barn House

Old Barn House is everything you want in a country holiday cottage. This gorgeous Herefordshire self-catering cottage sits in rolling countryside with views that appeal in every season. There are four bedrooms - including one accessible room on the ground floor - and open-plan living areas that make this house perfect for everything from a relaxed week in the school holidays to Christmas or a special celebration with your extended family or friends.

The cottage is in Pencoyd, a tiny hamlet near St Owen's Cross just a mile from the stunning Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a fishing lake just 350 metres from the door, and the cottage is also only 20 minutes from the River Monnow which makes the border between England and Wales, so there is endless scope for fishing, kayaking, canoeing and gorge walking. This region is a favourite with cyclists, mountain bikers and walkers for the quality and variety of the paths, and it's no exaggeration to say that you could holiday here every year and never run out of footpaths, bridleways and cycling routes to enjoy. Symond's Yat, the Forest of Dean, the Malvern Hills, and Offa's Dyke are some of the better-known areas, and with the western border of the Brecon Beacons National Park within easy reach, places like the Black Mountains in Wales are also open to you.

Herefordshire's gorgeous countryside is more than just a pretty view. The area's farms and orchards produce amazing food, especially beef, cheese and cider. Self-catering is a pleasure when you have such delicious ingredients to use, so make the most of the vibrant local markets and shops which will make your food shopping a treat to relish rather than the usual chore to endure. Spend a relaxing few hours browsing the independent shops and market stalls at Ross-on-Wye, Hay-on-Wye, and Monmouth. Hereford is a gorgeous cathedral town with independent and High Street shops, and Gloucester's cathedral is also worth a visit. Cheltenham, Bristol and Cardiff are all close enough for a day of shopping and sightseeing.

The owners of Old Barn House have taken care over the little details, like the quality of the sheets, every bit as much as the big features, such as the outdoor hot tub, to ensure their guests have everything they could wish for in a relaxing stay. It is a lovely place to spend with your family and friends, relaxing and having fun with the people you love the best.

Accommodation Comprises:

Old Barn House is a period cottage transformed into a welcoming place with a layout that suits modern lifestyles. Accommodation is over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Guests feel welcome as soon as they step into the entrance hall, where there is space for them to catch their breath and divest themselves of coats and bags before moving into the rest of the house.
  • Walk down the hall into the main living space where there is comfortable seating for everyone to sit and watch Netflix on the TV, chat or play games. Glazed doors open onto the patio, framing gorgeous views and filling the room with natural light.
  • Wander over to the kitchen, which blends country style with modern appliances to create a relaxed place where families will happily congregate to chat while preparing delicious meals. There is everything you need for self-catering right down to the last teaspoon.
  • There is plenty of space for up to eight guests to sit at the classic oak dining table, where the window overlooks the stunning mature garden. There is a corner sofa in to relax with a pre or post-dinner drink.
  • Superking/Twin bedroom that is accessible for guests who use a wheelchair, with two single beds and proper storage. Zip-link beds can be set up to suit your needs so please let the owner know your preferred layout when booking.
  • Ground floor shower room with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Utility room with a washing machine, dryer, iron and an ironing board. There is also a sink in case you need to rinse off muddy paws.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom suite with a super king-sized (6ft-wide) bed, plenty of built-in storage, and fantastic views. The ensuite has a shower over the bath, a WC and a handbasin.
  • King-size bedroom with dual aspect windows that look out over the garden and the glorious Herefordshire countryside. As with the other three bedrooms, there is a Hypnos mattress, hypo-allergenic bedding and Egyptian cotton bed linen.
  • Twin bedroom with two single beds that can be connected to create a super king-sized bed, and dual aspect windows with calming rural views.
  • Separate cloakroom with a WC and a handbasin.

Outside: Old Barn House is as attractive outside as within. There is a big patio with seating and gas barbecue so guests can eat outdoors in nice weather, and a hot tub where they can soak tired muscles while stargazing. The mature gardens include an area of lawn where kids and dogs can run and play football and other games, and there is ample off-street parking.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath sheets are provided. Well-behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement and a weekly surcharge, and the house is very dog friendly. A cot (no bedding) and highchair are available on request.
