The Cider Mill is a pretty Herefordshire holiday cottage on the outskirts of the small hamlet of Monninton on Wye, eight miles from Hereford and close to the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley. The well-appointed property welcomes guests with comfort to an impressive 5-star Gold standard, sleeping six people in three bedrooms with accommodation all on the ground floor. It's ideal for families or friends who love the tranquil surroundings, beautiful views and rural pursuits, all within walking distance of The Portway Inn.
Herefordshire is a relaxed county with plenty to offer visitors, even if you are only there for a weekend. The Cider Mill is convenient for both the M50 and the M5, so you'll be relaxing in the garden with a cold drink before you know it. Walking, cycling and mountain biking are all incredibly popular, especially with the Brecon Beacons and the Wye Valley so close. Guests also have good access to golf, fishing and canoeing on the River Wye, climbing, gorge walking and horse riding. History buffs will love the opportunity to see the Mappa Mundi and the chained library in Hereford's magnificent cathedral, and there are more castles, black-and-white timber buildings and specialist museums within an hour's drive than we can list easily.
This region is renowned for the quality of its food and drink, making it an ideal destination for serious foodies who plan their holiday around the Ludlow and Abergavenny food festivals, which take place on the second and third weekends in September every year. If books are more your thing, then Hay-on-Wye should certainly be on your itinerary. The book town has a raft of specialist book shops, including a charming honesty bookshop by the castle walls. Hay hosts a world-famous literary festival every May, or you could come for the Royal Welsh Show in July, Brecon Jazz Festival in August, or the Ross Walking Festival in October. There's always something going on in this fantastic area.
