Peregrine Retreat maximises the impact of the breathtaking rural views. It's impressively large for a one-bedroom lodge, featuring a modern kitchen well-equipped for self-catering. Gaze upon mile upon mile of countryside spanning Herefordshire, Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Powys and beyond as you recline on a luxurious velvet sofa or relax in the outdoor spa bath. It's a fantastic place where couples can escape for a honeymoon, babymoon, romantic break or a holiday, walking and cycling from a holiday cottage close to the border between England and Wales and convenient for the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you fancy a night off cooking the Fountain Inn pub in Orcrop Hill is within walking distance.
Peregrine Retreat is one of a handful of exclusive holiday cottages at Bettws Court Retreat, chosen for its proximity to favourite sights and attractions. Orcop Hill is tiny, with few properties to mar the views of rolling fields and farmland. Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes as you won't be able to resist being outside and active. What better way to work up an appetite than following one of the signposted circular walks around Herefordshire or combining sightseeing with a walk on routes like the famous Three Castles? You'll enjoy mountain biking in the Brecon Beacons and Forest of Dean, knowing that you can quickly soothe aching muscles with a soak in bubbling heated water under a brilliant night sky. Kayak along the River Wye or paddleboard on the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal, go fly fishing or play golf. Activities and attractions include Hereford Cathedral with the medieval Mappa Mundi, National Trust Laskett Gardens, Symonds Yat, Puzzlewood, Hampton Court Castle and Gardens, Croft Castle, and the Brockhampton Estate.
Shopping and eating are a joy in Herefordshire, with an excellent choice of traditional markets, food shops, cafes and restaurants making great use of the high-quality produce grown on the farms you can see from the cottage's window. Hereford is famous for its cider and produces great wines at vineyards like Ancre Hill and Three Choirs. The team at Chase Distillery have worked hard on their delicious vodkas and gins, turning themselves into a delightful boutique brand. Farmers' markets include those in Hereford on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, Hay-on-Wye every Thursday, Monmouth Friday and Saturday, and Ross-on-Wye on Thursday and Saturday. Those who enjoy getting creative in the kitchen can brush up on their skills in a specialist cooking class. Guests who would rather someone else do the shopping can order groceries to be delivered from Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda, or one of two award-winning farm shops.
Peregrine Retreat is one of three superb self-catering lodges at Bettws Court. All are entirely private and self-contained and can be booked together if you are on holiday with friends but prefer to maintain your own space.
