About The Linhay

The Linhay is welcoming and spacious, accommodating five people in three bedrooms with room for a travel cot. It's very popular with families, many of whom return for holidays year after year. They love the atmosphere on the family-run Lower Hearson Farm just outside of Barnstaple in North Devon. As far as self-catering cottages in North Devon go, Linhay is excellent. Owners Anna and Tim have five holiday rentals on their smallholding, which, when booked together, sleep up to 22 guests. They have created a wonderfully comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, giving families and friends space to relax and enjoy everything the North Devon coast and countryside offer.

Lower Hearson is in a peaceful, rural location only a few miles from the market town of Barnstaple, with all of its shops and cafes. Eating well when you stay at The Linhay is not a problem whether you self-cater or enjoy dining out. Westward Ho! and Saunton Sands are around half an hour's scenic drive from Linhay, with other local beaches, including Woolacombe and Instow. The North Devon coast is a stunning stretch of rocky cliffs, sheltered coves, pebble beaches and sandy shores with rockpools. You'll quickly find a perfect spot for swimming, surfing, or sunbathing, no matter how the wind blows.

There is a lot to keep you occupied without leaving Lower Hearson Farm. Let the kids go free-range in the paddock or the woodland walk, take part in the daily feeding of sheep, pigs, chickens and guinea pigs, swim, and play in the games room. Venture out for many family-friendly attractions like The Big Sheep, Combe Martin Dinosaur and Wildlife Park, and The Milky Way Adventure Park. The water-powered cliff railway between Lynton and Lynmouth is fun, as is Ilfracombe Aquarium and Exmoor Zoo.

Accommodation Comprises:

The Linhay is a split-level property. It has a few internal steps but no significant staircases, which makes it a good choice for families with young children.

  • Open-plan living suits family life. The living area has plenty of room for socialising, furnished with comfortable sofas and a TV. The dining table seats five people, and a high chair is available if necessary.
  • The kitchen is well-stocked with plates, glasses, cutlery, pots, pans and other cooking utensils. There is a dishwasher and, importantly for those with children on a farm, a washer/dryer.
  • A single bedroom is next to the living room. It's great for teens or older children who like their space and privacy away from younger siblings.
  • The main bedroom has a double bed, proper storage, and an ensuite shower room. There is also room for a travel cot in here.
  • The third bedroom has two single beds.
  • There is a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin in the main bathroom.

Outside: Guests can explore the large garden, woodland, and paddock. The pool is available between May and September, while the games room is open all year round. Linhay has two parking spaces.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi and bed linen are provided. Guests can hire or bring bath towels but will need to provide beach towels and cot bedding if they are required. Smoking is not allowed.
