About Old Hundredth

Old Hundredth is the perfect place to kick back and relax on a self-catering holiday in South Devon. The period stone cottage, with its whitewashed walls and roses growing over the door, will immediately capture your heart, and that's before you take in the location that's within walking distance of the friendly 16th Century Dolphin Inn pub. There is space for up to four people to sleep in two charming bedrooms, so Old Hundredth is ideal for couples, families or friends.

The cottage is in the pretty village of Kingston in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It blends the beauty of the South Hams countryside with the drama of the coast without the bustle of summer crowds. The River Erme is nearby, and Wonwell Beach is approximately 1 mile from the cottage. The village is surrounded by working farmland and coastline with miles of footpaths and cycling routes to make exploration a joy in any season. The South Hams Coast has a variety of beaches that range from sheltered coves for swimming and paddle-boarding to vast sandy swathes with consistently reliable conditions for surfing and windsurfing. Beach and river fishing are also an excellent way to enjoy being by the water.

Kingsbridge is the nearest large town to Old Hundredth but there are closer shops to buy food and drink for your self-catering holiday at St Anne’s Chapel Bigbury and Modbury. The market town of Kingsbridge is also a great place to arrange activities and hire bikes and other sports equipment like kayaks and surfboards. Shopping in Kingsbridge is a pleasure with its array of independent boutiques and antique shops, and a twice-monthly farmers' market.

Day trips can include taking the sea tractor from Bigbury to Burgh Island, exploring the vast landscape of Dartmoor and shopping in Salcombe and Totnes. Sail in the Kingsbridge Estuary, treat yourself to a spa day or a yoga class, and browse galleries that showcase the best of local talent. The region also boasts a fun calendar of events that celebrate the food, arts and community that make the South Hams a favourite destination for so many people. Accommodation Comprises:

Old Hundredth is a detached period property with original features and a traditional layout. Accommodation is over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Enter beneath fragrant climbing roses through the front door and into the living/dining room and kitchen. The modern open plan space works well in the period cottage, where the age is emphasised with the original exposed beams and thick stone walls.
  • Living space with two deep sofas and an armchair in front of the fireplace, and the owner has filled the bookshelves with books, games and information about the local area. There is a TV and the cottage has WiFi throughout.
  • There is more natural light at the rear of the cottage, which makes the kitchen/diner a lovely place for lazy breakfasts and relaxed brunch. Fitted cabinets painted a soft white shade amplify the sense of space and light, while the scrubbed pine table adds to the country-kitchen charm. The kitchen has all of the appliances and utensils guests need for self-catering.

Upstairs:

  • A wooden staircase leads from the living room to the landing off which leads two bedrooms and the bathroom.
  • Master bedroom with a double bed, bedside tables and reading lights, and built-in storage.
  • Twin bedroom with two full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds, a dressing table and built-in storage.
  • Family bathroom with a bath, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: Old Hundredth has a pretty mature cottage garden to the front and side, with a paved patio and garden furniture. There is off-street parking for one car.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, sheets and towels are provided. A travel cot (no bedding) and high chair are available. Well-behaved pets are welcome through prior agreement and for a small surcharge. Smoking is not permitted.

Well behaved pets are welcome at this property but there is an additional levy per pet of £20. Please note pets are to be kept under control at all times.. Where indicated we are also happy to provide short breaks, subject to a minimum 3 day stay and minimum daily rate of £65 plus change over clean levy of £50.
