Malt Cottage is a gorgeous riverfront holiday cottage in Noss Mayo, a peaceful village in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty less than 10 miles from Plymouth. The period property enjoys an elevated position next to the River Yealm with guests not only having stunning waterfront views but also direct access to the water - a heaven for guests who love to sail, kayak or paddle-board. The three spacious double bedrooms, two of which have fantastic water views, comfortably sleep up to six people, making this property ideal for families or friends. There are three friendly pubs within walking distance, including the excellent Ship and Swan Inns, while shops and other amenities - such as the newly opened cafe The Green - are across the Yealm Creek in Newton Ferrers.
Noss Mayo is something of a hidden gem. The charming village is only a short drive from the historical naval city of Plymouth, with its many sights and attractions, yet feels calm and peaceful - the antithesis of the frantic pace at which many people live their day to day life. Follow the path through Passage Wood to Cellar Beach, a sheltered cove at the mouth of the river, or wander around the coastal footpath towards Warren Beach. The breathtaking Mothecombe Beach is only a 10-minute drive away while Bantham, Bigbury, Hope Cove and Thurlestone are also within easy reach for a day at the seaside.
Newton Ferrers is an easy walk, paddle, or bike ride from Malt Cottage. It has a small Co-Op supermarket (which stocks a surprising amount!), pharmacy and post office. There is also Ben's Farm Shop a very short drive away which stocks beautiful local produce and also offers a seasonal pick-your-own! Anything else you need is readily accessible in Plymouth, about half an hour's drive from the cottage. Plymouth is a historic naval city with a rich heritage, museums, shops, restaurants and an aquarium. Dartmoor and the upmarket town of Salcombe are both within easy reach to give you an endless choice of places to see and things to do.
Living beside the river, even if only for a short time, is the perfect way to slow down, unwind, and give yourself time to recharge. You can fill your days with activity or go no further than the private sunny balcony from which you have an uninterrupted view of the water, boats, and the surrounding countryside. It's idyllic at any time of the year.
