Ivy Cottage is as pretty as a picture. The traditional Devon home has thick stone walls that keep it cool in summer and toasty warm in winter, especially when you light the open fire. With three bedrooms that sleep up to six people, plus a large private garden, it is perfect for families who want the experience of staying in a holiday home with genuine charm and character together with modern comforts and a location within walking distance of the friendly 16th Century Dolphin pub.
Kingston is a quiet community within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with much of the village - including Ivy Cottage - protected in two conservation areas. The South Devon countryside is lush and fertile, something which will be evident as you walk or cycle along footpaths, bridleways and cycleways. Kingston is in the Erme Estuary, and the River Erme flows into the sea at Wonwell Beach, less than two miles from the cottage. Wonwell is quiet and somewhat secluded, with no amenities or lifeguards, and fantastic for those who want to avoid summer crowds. Visitors who prefer a livelier stretch of sand will enjoy nearby places like Bigbury-on-Sea and Bantham, where both locations have lifeguards and amenities but rarely feel busy.
There are plenty of ways to keep yourself amused during a holiday in Ivy Cottage. Being close to the coast means not only beautiful beaches but also gorgeous coastal walks that include a challenging six-mile loop past Westcombe Beach and Hoist Point, passing above caves and coves used by smugglers in the 17th and 18th centuries. There are four rivers close by, so the opportunities for sailing and bird watching are plentiful; and market towns like Modbury and Kingsbridge provide a choice of places to eat, drink and shop. Plymouth is 14 miles or a 30-minute drive from Ivy Cottage, with a long naval history, museums, shops and other city entertainment.
Dartmoor is within easy reach, while local attractions include Dartmoor Zoo, Burgh Island and the sea tractor, Pennywell Farm, National Trust properties and Gardens. The beautiful English Riviera is less than an hour by car, giving easy access to Paignton and Torquay's beaches, parks, shops and seaside amusements.
Ivy Cottage provides a wonderfully rural base within easy reach of the beach so that guests can experience the beauty of both South Devon's coast and countryside.
