Skiddaw is a beautiful two-bedroom apartment with breathtaking views of the Lakeland fells. It sleeps up to five people in two bedrooms and is one of a handful of self-catering properties at the renowned Embleton Spa Hotel. Guests have the space and privacy of a self-catering apartment together with access to the hotel's treatments and amenities. You and your family can wake up each morning to a fantastic breakfast (included in the price!) and an even better view, then spend the day exploring the magnificent scenery of the Lake District National Park. At the end of the day you can return back to enjoy dinner in the restaurant or simply relax in the apartment with facilities for self-catering.
The apartment's location could not be more ideal for exploring the north lakes and the Cumbrian coast. It is less than four miles from Cockermouth, where there is an excellent variety of places to eat, drink and shop. Local attractions include the romantic ruins of Cockermouth Castle and the house where one of Britain's best-loved poets, William Wordsworth, was born. Follow the self-guided Town Trail to learn more about the history and character of the town, take in a show at the Kirkgate Centre, or enjoy a tour around Jennings Brewery. Cockermouth is ideal for self-catering visitors as, in addition to a weekly market every Friday, it has a good range of shops including butchers, fishmongers and bakers.
The north-west shore of Bassenthwaite Lake is just two miles from your apartment, a lovely bike ride away (bike storage is available). Here, you will find the Bassenthwaite Sailing Club and the Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve. Skiddaw is just over nine miles on foot from your door, taking around four hours to walk or 25-minutes to drive to the 3,000ft mountain. There are several routes to the peak of the mountain, including two suited to mountain bikes. You don't have to do a challenging walk to feel the benefit of being in such a stunning location. There's a lovely four-mile loop that passes through Wythrop on the way to The Pheasant pub before returning via the lakefront and Dubwath Beck.
Attractions within easy reach of Skiddaw apartment and the Embleton Spa Hotel include Whinlatter Forest, the Lake District Wildlife Park, the Ullswater Steamer, Honister Slate Mine, and the King Kong Climbing Centre. There is a wide choice of indoor and outdoor activities to suit you and the weather.
It is so easy to get outdoors and be active when you stay at Skiddaw, whether you enjoy fell walking, mountain biking, climbing, golf, fishing, horse riding, sailing or one of the myriad other fun activities. It is also wonderfully simple to relax by taking advantage of the hotel's spa, which includes free use of the pool, gym and steam room. The Cumbrian coast and beautiful beaches like Silloth, Crummock, and Seascale are within half an hour, while the fantastic shops and other amenities in Keswick are within a 15-minute drive of the apartment.
Skiddaw is an excellent choice for families, including those on holiday with extended family or friends staying in the other accommodation at the Embleton Spa Hotel. Short breaks are possible all year round, so please see the owner's website for more information.
