Ennerdale Apartment blends the space and privacy of a self catering apartment with the service and convenience of a hotel in a match made in heaven. A hearty Cumbrian breakfast in the hotel restaurant is included each morning! The one-bedroom apartment is part of the renowned Embleton Spa Hotel, less than two miles from Bassenthwaite in the north-west corner of the Lake District National Park and within easy reach of Cockermouth and the Cumbrian coast. The location is perfect for couples or individuals who appreciate having their own space to relax together with a welcoming bar and restaurant on site.
Who needs the Alps when you have the plunging lakes and soaring peaks of the Lake District. Its beauty is staggering and rivals anywhere in the world, which is one reason it is one of England's top holiday destinations. While the more populated towns around Windermere and the south-east can feel overwhelming and crowded, the north-west corner near Embleton remains calm and peaceful, with virtually empty footpaths and mountain bike trails, and no traffic noise to disturb the serenity. As you climb Skiddaw or sail across Bassenthwaite, it's hard to believe that these glorious mountains were once silt on the seabed, or that the force of a glacier created the sweeping Honister Pass. You may even doubt that the quantity of stars and the brilliance of the night sky is real, but we can assure you that every magnificent sparkle is wonderfully authentic.
Eat, drink and shop in Cockermouth, four miles from the apartment where there are Lidl, Aldi and Sainsbury's supermarkets as well as a butcher, fishmonger, baker and a local market every Friday morning. The ruins of Cockermouth Castle make a lovely spot for a picnic, and admirers of William Wordsworth can see the house where he was born. The easiest way to learn more about this historic town is by following the self-guided Town Trail. Keswick is another wonderful market town that's only a 15-minute drive away, giving you an even wider choice of shops, museums and other attractions.
Guests staying at Ennerdale Apartment can use the hotel's bike storage facility. Ride two miles to the edge of Bassenthwaite and the Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve. Two of the trails to the top of Skiddaw are suitable for mountain bikes, and the base of the mountain is only nine miles away. Those who prefer a more relaxing route can follow the four-mile path going through Wythrop and passing The Pheasant pub and Dubwath Beck. Fell walking and climbing are two more favourite ways to spend time outdoors, as are fishing and golf. Basing yourself at the Ennerdale Apartment means you're within easy reach of everything.
Day trips can include going to the seaside with beaches like Seascale, Silloth and Crummock within half an hour's drive. The Whinlatter Forest and Lake District Wildlife Park are nearby, and it's simple enough to get to top attractions like the Honister Slate Mine and the Ullswater Steamer. Treat yourself to a few hours at the hotel's spa, and you'll end your holiday feeling revived, body and soul.
