About Heron Beck

Heron Beck is a superb family holiday home in one of the most desirable areas of the Lake District. Packed with luxurious touches that show the owner's keen attention to detail, this much loved holiday home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms to comfortably accommodate seven guests. The exterior is as impressive as inside the house, with extensive gardens where you can sit and enjoy the mountain views on long summer evenings as the sun sets to reveal glittering night skies. Heron Beck is spacious and private yet only a 10-minute stroll from the centre of Grasmere.

The Lake District has inspired countless writers, poets and artists but possibly none more famous than William Wordsworth. Wordsworth felt that Grasmere was "the loveliest spot that man hath found". Millions of people agree with him, falling in love with the beauty and charm of this picturesque gem of a village at the very heart of the Lakes. An excellent array of places to shop, drink and eat, including the Michelin-starred Forestside restaurant, are all within walking distance of Heron Beck, giving visitors plenty of options for dining out. Pay your respects at the churchyard where William Wordsworth is buried, and don't miss tasting the delicious Grasmere gingerbread.

Despite the adorable boutiques and tea rooms, it is still the landscape that makes Grasmere such a wonderful year-round holiday destination. Walk around the lake or head up onto the fells - Fairfield, Helvellyn, and Helm Crag are just a few of the fantastic routes accessible from the door of Heron Beck. No motorboats are allowed on Grasmere Lake, so it's blissfully peaceful. It's a lovely spot for wild swimming (wetsuit advised!) and kayaking, and you can hire a rowboat in the summer. If you walk along the Red Bank Road and around the lake's western shore, you'll soon come to Rydal Water. When calm, the lake's surface is a mirror, reflecting views of the breathtaking Loughrigg Fell, with a path leading to Loughrigg Terrace.

Local attractions include the Wordsworth Museum and the poet's house, Dove Cottage. Allen Banks and Staward Gorge is perfect for a walk and a picnic, while a springtime walk through the woods in Glencoyne Park on the shore of nearby Ullswater will show you the scene which inspired the beloved poem, "Daffodils". Ambleside, Windermere, Keswick, Derwentwater, Coniston and the Langdale Valley are also within easy reach.

The owner's of Heron Beck use it for their own holidays, so you can trust that it has everything guests will need for a comfortable, self-catering holiday. The spacious layout and high standard of accommodation will ensure your holiday is one you'll love to remember.
