Vardra House is a charming holiday cottage in the market town of Ross-on-Wye. The Grade-II Listed terrace townhouse has fantastic views over the River Wye and is within walking distance of shops, eateries, bars and welcoming pubs like the Man of Ross. The cottage is packed with gorgeous period features typical of properties from the early 1800s, including thick oak beams and an original fireplace that now has a warming log burner. Accommodation is spread over three levels with a double bedroom on the top floor. Couples love this charming cottage for a romantic escape, but it's also ideal for independent travellers who want the privacy of their own space.
If you can't decide between a quiet holiday in the countryside or a sociable one in town, then Ross-on-Wye is the ideal choice for you. This part of the River Wye is renowned for its coarse and salmon fishing, and you'll probably pass at least one or two anglers as you walk or cycle along the path beside the river, depending on the season. Not only does staying at Vardra House give you great access to the Wye Valley, with stunning views, extensive footpaths and cycling routes, and places to climb and canoe, but you're also within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Forest of Dean, Malvern Hills, and the Black Mountains.
Swap your waterproofs and walking boots for a day of racing at Chepstow, Cheltenham and Worcester racecourses. Alternate days walking and mountain biking, with time spent exploring the beautiful cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester or browsing shops and markets at Ross, Hay-on-Wye, and Abergavenny. The Cotswolds AONB and places like Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and the Slaughters are within an hour's drive, while Bristol is only a little bit further.
However you choose to spend your days, you'll love returning to Vardra House, lighting the log burner and relaxing with a glass of wine in front of the fire, putting your feet up in front of the TV, or snuggling down in the comfortable bed with a good book. Ross-on-Wye is a wonderful year-round holiday destination with something to appeal to everyone in any season.
