About Middlemist

Middlemist is a Devonian dream, especially if you yearn for space and privacy. Not only does the Grade II Listed house sit on a peaceful 350-acre country estate, but it also has access to half a mile of a private beach so even in the height of summer you can still spread out and relax by the sea away from the crowds. Sleeping up to ten guests in four bedrooms, it is ideal for large and extended families or groups of friends searching for somewhere truly special.

The house is part of the Rousdon Estate just outside of Lyme Regis. Rousdon is privately owned with no through access and minimal traffic, making it a safe and peaceful place to stay. Although it feels wonderfully remote and “away from it all”, it is only a ten-minute drive to Lyme Regis where you can find great pubs like The Volunteer Inn and The Royal Standard. Lyme Regis is a beautiful resort town famed for the quality of its beaches and abundance of fossils. It has a fantastic marine aquarium, parks and gardens, Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, a vibrant harbour, and a good variety of shops, cafes and restaurants (including Mark Hix Oyster and Fish House overlooking the sea - perfect for a special meal!).

Axminster is the nearest town with a train station, around eleven miles north of Middlemist with a wide range of shops, including a supermarket. The historic church is a focal point both of the community and the landscape, and there is a thriving market every Thursday which viewers of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s “River Cottage Canteen” may recognise from television. Other nearby attractions include Quarry Caves in Beer, Crealy Park, the Donkey Sanctuary, Shute Baron Manor, Jacob’s Ladder beach at Sidmouth, Bicton Park Botanical Garden and Pecorama.

The beautiful Dorset coastline is on the doorstep of Middlemist with access onto the coastal footpath from the estate, which will reward you with stunning views at any time of year. Challenge yourself by walking the coastal footpath, cycling or mountain biking, and even coasteering - however you choose to explore the cliffs and beaches, you will not be disappointed.

Middlemist is more than merely a place to stay, it is a home-from-home, with the potential to provide some of your favourite holiday memories.
