Pheasant Lodge is a former 18th Century coach house renovated and transformed into a pretty self-catering cottage in the Eden Valley, with space for up to four people to sleep in two lovely bedrooms. It is in the village of Long Marton, three miles from Appleby and within walking distance of the local pub, The Masons Arms. Couples, families and friends all love their stay here, with many guests returning year after year.
Long Marton is perfect for exploring not only the Eden Valley but also the Lake District National Park, Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, all of which are just a few miles from the cottage. There is endless scope for hillwalking, mountain biking and cycling, and sightseeing around picturesque towns and villages. Appleby-in-Westmoreland is only three miles away, with lots of places to eat, drink and shop, including the regular Saturday market. The Cumbrian town of Penrith is about 12 miles from Pheasant Lodge and also has excellent shops and amenities.
The Eden Valley is stunning in every season. It is named after the River Eden, loved by anglers for the quality of salmon and trout fishing. There's a lovely walk from Long Marton to nearby Kirkby Thore, with other nearby footpaths including the Ullswater Way, around Shap Abbey, and to local beauty spots that include High Cup Nick, Cauldron Snout, and Knock Fell. Mountain biking is also popular, especially around the long-distance Pennine Way, Lake District and Dales Loop and the family-friendly traffic-free route on the old railway line between Hartley and Stenkrith Park.
Nearby attractions include the Settle to Carlisle Railway whose steam trains run through Long Marton on the regular timetable, Lacy's Caves, Brougham Castle, Appleby Castle, the Great Asby Scar Nature Reserve, and the Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre. Day trips can include sightseeing in Keswick, boating on Ullswater, and visiting National Trust properties such as Acorn Bank.
Pheasant Lodge is welcoming and comfortable for a holiday in any season. The scenery is always gorgeous, and there's a great choice of sights and activities conveniently close for planning a holiday you'll love to remember and want to repeat.
