Lighthouse Cottage is a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers due to the diverse and windswept nature of the reserve it is situated in. The views of the sunrises and sunsets are simply breath-taking, and guests will adore the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature. Visitors can expect a modern and contemporary feel to the cottage, with furnishings of a high standard and many thoughtful little touches to make for a wonderful memorable holiday.
Binoculars and bird watching guidebooks can provide hours of entertainment from the dunes around the reserve, with guests able to spot eider ducks, willow warbler and sandwich terns in the Spring or nesting gulls, eiders, oystercatchers ringed plovers and sandwich terns in the Summer. In the cooler Autumn and Winter months, guests can keep warm using the beautiful log burner after the long walks to spot the waders and wildfowl.
Guests can cook up a feast in the fully-fitted kitchen with all amenities and equipment including a Krups/Nespresso coffee machine and an integrated dishwasher. Or, if wanting to relax just head to one of the many eateries on the island, such as Bosun’s Locker Café or The Owl and Pussycat Restaurant. Boat trips for a day on the water can be organised from Barrow-in Furness, or if it’s a historical visit you are after then plan an afternoon at The Dock Museum or Furness Abbey.

On the ground floor of the Lighthouse Cottage there are three rooms and family bathroom. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and a luxurious en-suite with a double walk-in shower. For the lethargic morning lie-ins, there's a mounted television, which can be watched from the warmth of the bed. The second bedroom holds a comfortable king-size bed and again has a TV that can be viewed from the bed which is mounted on the wall. The third bedroom has zip-link twin beds that can be made into a king-size bed upon request. The open family bathroom has an enormous shower over bath, in a contemporary style. There is likewise a helpful utility room with a clothes washer and tumble dryer.
Thoughtfully positioned up the stairs are the main living areas, including open plan living room and kitchen diner. With plenty of windows to absorb the breath-taking views and plush comfortable sofas to sink into after a day of walking.
The Lighthouse Hide is right next door, which welcomes 2 guests and is let independently - both can be reserved together to sleep a total of 8. Please note: you are staying in the heart of a nature reserve. There are limitations on where you can meander and there is no access to the beach on the South tip of Walney Island. The Cumbria Wildlife Trust manages the nature reserve, which is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. No dogs, drones or fireworks are permitted at the property or on the nature reserve. A warden keeps a close eye on the nature reserve, and car registration information is required to access the property before you arrive. The lane is quite bumpy, and a vehicle with a high clearance is highly recommended.
