About Kia Ora

Kia Ora is how Moari's welcome guests, and welcome is exactly how you'll feel when you arrive at this lovely self-catering cottage in Cockermouth. With two comfortable bedrooms and open-plan living space, it's ideal for couples and families. The holiday cottage is on a quiet residential road about a 10-minute walk from the centre of town, within easy reach of shops, cafes and pubs. Crummock South Beach is only a short drive away, as is the Lake District National Park.

You'll always be glad you took a holiday in the Lake District. The landscape is incredible and includes Scafell Pike and Wastwater, England's highest peak and deepest lake. If you love your holidays to be full of record breakers, then you will be delighted to discover that the Lake District is England's biggest national park, has the country's smallest church (St Olaf's), and is home to the world's oldest topiary garden at Levens Hall. All of these wonders are within an hour's drive of Kia Ora, but you'll find the world's longest coloured pencil in the Pencil Museum in Keswick, and England's sole mountain forest at Whinlatter, just a quarter of an hour's drive from the cottage.

There's so much to do in and around Cockermouth that you can easily fill your days with excitement, adventure and fun. Likewise, if you're searching for calmness and serenity, you'll find that here, too. Take time to explore the pretty market town and discover gems like the medieval Cockermouth Castle, destroyed by Robert the Bruce and only open to the public during the town's festival in July. Wander through the rooms where William Wordsworth and his sister, Dorothy, were born, and shop for local and artisan products at the small Friday morning market in the same way locals have since the town's Market Charter was issued in 1220.

Outside of town, visitors can enjoy a vast choice of walks through Buttermere, Calbeck, Bassenthwaite and Loweswater. Go fishing, play golf or head for the hill and forests on your mountain bike. Take your bucket and spade to beaches at St Bees and Maryport, or pack a picnic for a day at the Lake District Wildlife Park and Whinlatter Forest Park.

The weather is never a deterrent to fun when you stay at Kia Ora as the cottage is perfectly located to provide excellent access to destinations that suit every condition. As Cockermouth is slightly outside the National Park's boundaries, you have all the benefits of the scenery with none of the tourist-related congestion that can afflict some of the region's towns. When you stay at Kia Ora, you can expect a warm welcome all year round.

Accommodation Comprises:

Kia Ora is a single-storey dwelling with accommodation all on ground floor level. It is set back from a quiet residential street with off-street parking for two cars on the driveway at the front of the house.

  • An open-plan extension at the rear of the cottage has transformed the formerly bijou house into a light, spacious property with a combined living/dining room. Natural light floods in through the skylights and patio doors that open onto the patio and garden.
  • Living room with a three-seater sofa and casual armchairs positioned to face the SmartTV which has a DVD player and a Bose speaker.
  • Traditional style solid wood dining table and six chairs. There is a high chair available for younger guests.
  • Modern kitchen with warm wood cabinets and quality appliances that include a six-burner stove. There is ample space to prepare meals and store food, and the cupboards are full of all of the utensils, crockery and glasses guests need for self-catering.
  • Master bedroom with a double bed, a chest of drawers and a flatscreen TV and choice of books for guests to enjoy during their stay. The big picture window overlooks the drive.
  • Second bedroom overlooking the garden with two full-sized single beds and decor that feels as welcoming to children as to older guests.
  • Tiled bathroom with a generously-sized shower, double-ended bath, heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: Terraced garden with a patio and garden furniture closest to the house, and a lawn with planted flower beds and more seating. Mature trees provide shade and privacy. There is off-street parking at the front of the cottage and bikes can be stored in the secure garden which has 6ft fences and can be locked.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, sheets and towels are included in the price. A travel cot (no bedding) is available if it is required - please let the owners know when booking. Up to three well-behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement. Short breaks may be possible, depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted.
