About Greenfoot Barn

Greenfoot Barn is a lovely barn conversion in the rural Cumbrian hamlet of Raughton Head. Converted from a rustic stone barn on the owner's estate, the charming holiday cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms and is great for couples or families. The location is perfect for anyone who wants to swap the noise, stress and pace of modern life for peace and panoramic countryside views. Although it's remote, it's not isolated. Dalston is five miles or a 10-minute drive away, while Carlisle and Penrith are both within easy reach with a fantastic variety of shops, tea rooms, pubs and other amenities convenient for a self-catering holiday.

Dalston is a wonderful base to explore Cumbria, the north of the Lake District and Border Country. Some of the country's most spectacular landscape is within a small radius. The River Caldrew and the long-distance Cumbrian Way pass a few hundred metres from the cottage. There's a lovely footpath from Raughton Head to Rosebank, which passes Rose Castle and gardens, home to the Bishops of Carlisle. Though not open to the public, it's still a picturesque sight from the footpath. Another favourite local walk is the five-mile Three Bridges walk that includes the new Bell Bridge in Welton built to replace a much-older bridge destroyed by Storm Desmond in December 2015.

Day trips can include boating on Ullswater, admiring the Aira Force Waterfall, exploring the beautiful Solway Coast, and sightseeing and shopping in Carlisle and Gretna Green. Hadrian's Wall and Birdoswald Fort is another top choice for a day out and just over half an hour's drive from Greenfoot Barn, or you can mountain bike or walk through the beautiful North Pennines.

Greenfoot Barn is ideal for a holiday whether you're one to spend all day outside and being active, you love touring a historic house or castle, or you just want to drive around and see where the days take you. The owners welcome guests from the beginning of March through to the end of the October half-term, giving access to their 15 acres of grounds, including horse paddocks, woodland, and gardens.
