About Ship Inn Farmhouse

Ship Inn Farmhouse is a beautiful coastal holiday cottage in the Cornish village of Crantock. The self-catering property dates from the 1500s and is Grade II listed, with a thatched roof and plenty of period charm. With four bedrooms and three bathrooms, it's an excellent choice for families or friends who want to be close to the beach and within walking distance of shops, cafes and pubs like the friendly Old Albion Inn. Importantly for a holiday home by the beach, it also has dedicated parking.

Crantock is a friendly village two miles south of Newquay. Dunes back its long sandy beach, popular with locals and visitors for swimming, surfing, and windsurfing. During the summer, you can hire surfboards and sea kayaks, and lifeguards patrol between Easter and the end of September. Ship Inn Farmhouse is barely 400 metres from the beach, so you can head out for an early surf or a relaxed sunset swim without having to pack the car up and head out for the day. The cottage and the beach are dog-friendly, with a favourite walk along the coast from Pentire Headland (a Site of Special Scientific Interest) to the Gannel River, continuing along the South West Coast Path to Newquay or Holywell Bay.

While the beaches undoubtedly attract visitors and are the star of the show, there is lots around Crantock and Newquay to keep people of all ages entertained. Flambards, Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium are family favourites, as are the Lappa Valley Steam Railway and Dairyland Farm Park. Much of Crantock is owned by the National Trust, which also cares for the Elizabethan Trerice manor house and gardens. You're half an hour south of Padstow and an hour from Land's End. This part of Cornwall is only 20 miles wide, so it's simple to drive to the east coast and places like Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, and Mevagissey.

Ship Inn Farmhouse welcomes visitors all year round. Short breaks are possible outside of the peak summer season and school holidays.

Ship Inn Farmhouse is a 16th-Century, Grade II Listed thatched cottage with an enclosed garden and allocated parking.

Downstairs:

  • Oak beams and a stone fireplace reflect the age of the cottage in the living room. Heated slate floors are a practical and comfortable choice for a seaside holiday home, especially for guests with a dog, as they are easy to keep clean. The log burner is a welcoming feature in winter, keeping you cosy as you watch TV.
  • An extension to the cottage is now a lovely light-filled dining room with French doors that open into the garden. The long timber table has eight high-backed dining chairs.
  • A huge island worktop, two ovens, and original stone walls and beams make the kitchen a welcoming place to prepare meals for family and friends. Stable doors open into the garden so you can let in light and air without worrying that children or dogs will wander outside unsupervised.
  • One of the four bedrooms is downstairs. It has two single beds and a chest of drawers.

Upstairs:

  • Climb the original staircase to the first-floor landing which leads to three bedrooms and a bathroom.
  • Bedroom One is furnished with a king-sized bed, hanging and folding storage, and a TV. The ensuite has a shower, basin and WC.
  • Bedroom Two has a pitched bonnet ceiling that reflects the exterior shape of the roof. There are two single beds and an ensuite shower room.
  • Bedroom Three features a double bed, storage, and a TV.
  • There is a family bathroom with a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The cottage's garden is enclosed and has seating. There is allocated parking for one car outside the property.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. Two dogs are welcome at a cost of £50 per pet per stay. Smoking and candles are strictly prohibited due to the thatch.
