Galloway House is on the family-owned Tunstall Road Farm near Catterick in North Yorkshire. It's one of three luxury holiday cottages that, when booked together, sleep up to 22 people. On its own, the self-catering holiday cottage sleeps six people in three bedrooms with space for two more on a sofabed. It's a great place for friends or families of all ages, especially those who love being close to two national parks with a huge choice of footpaths, cycling routes and mountain bike trails accessible virtually from the door.
Catterick is a friendly village with Roman roots. Known as Cateractonium, it was built in 78CE to protect an important point across the River Swale. It has two pubs and a shop, with other amenities nearby in Richmond. The location is ideal for exploring. The farm is quiet yet handy for the A1, and only a few miles from the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. Aysgarth Waterfall is a popular destination for a walk, as is Easby Abbey. Alternatively, save your legs and take a ride on the Wensleydale Railway from Scruton Station.
There is a lot to do in Richmond, starting with admiring its magnificent Norman castle that has towered over the town since 1071. Stop by the marketplace on Wednesday or Saturday for a great range of fresh local produce. The owners of Galloway House have a butcher shop in town, or you can order your meat from them directly. Richmond also has a museum and a Georgian theatre. A good variety of bars and restaurants combined with a calendar full of fun events means you can usually plan a memorable night out during your stay. Further afield, Harrogate and York are bursting with historic sites, incredible shops and boutiques, and a wealth of attractions that will appeal to everyone in all seasons.
You can book Galloway House on its own if you're travelling with family or friends. It is completely private and self-contained with guests raving about the high standard of accommodation, beautiful views and location that's convenient for favourite sights and attractions. Depending on availability, you can also book it with The Farmhouse which sleeps 8-10 people, and Greendale Lodge, which sleeps four people.
