20 miles south of Edinburgh on the banks of the River Tweed, Peebles is a fabulous place for your self-catering holiday in the Scottish Borders. It has superb shops, cafes and events, and it is on the doorstep of some of the most picturesque spots in southern Scotland. Being Scotland, it's likely to rain at least once during your stay, but that's not a reason not to get outside and explore. Whether you're traversing the heather-covered moors or following the flow of the river, the scenery will leave its mark. The River Tweed is famous for the quality of its salmon and sea trout, and a must for anglers from beginner to expert. Peebles is an established mountain bike destination with excellent trails for all abilities nearby at Glentress and Innerleithen.
Don't miss the opportunity to explore Scotland's historic capital. Edinburgh Castle is a must, but book tickets well in advance as these sell out early. You're only 55 miles from Glasgow, with more opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. There is golfing galore at Peebles, West Linton, and Innerleithen, and you can even squeeze in a cheeky day at the coast at Cramond, Portobello, Seacliff, and North Berwick.
