The Fold is a welcoming and comfortable barn conversion that will quickly find its way onto your list of 'favourite' for Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria self-catering. The one-bedroom Cumbrian cottage is in a peaceful location a short walk from the centre of Crosby Garrett and within easy reach of Kirkby Stephen. Guests enjoy beautiful views of the Pennines from the house and the garden, both of which are pet-friendly for couples who want to bring their dog on holiday with them.
Crosby Garrett is ideal for a romantic escape as it is a residential village with a friendly community and stunning views. The Grade I listed St Andrews Church dates from the 1100s, and there is an impressive six-arch viaduct over which the famous Settle to Carlisle railway passes. It is one of the prettiest spots in the Eden Valley with local footpaths leading across Crosby Garett fell, as well as around the nearby Smardale Wildlife Reserve.
When you need to stock up on provisions, or you fancy browsing the shops, Kirkby Stephen is only a ten-minute journey by car or a four-mile walk or cycle. This area has been home to Romans and Vikings, and much of the town's architecture is protected as part of a Conservation Area. There are an excellent variety of places to shop, eat and drink, including a regular local market every Monday. Spend a relaxed morning wandering through the town's cobbled streets before picking up the ingredients for a picnic and enjoying it beside Frank's Bridge over the River Eden. Alfred Wainright's Coast to Coast walk passes through Kirkby Stephen, while a favourite local path is the Northern Viaducts Round which follows the old Stainmore Railway.
Not only is Crosby Garret part of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park and Cumbria but it is a stone's throw from the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and within easy reach of the Lake District National Park. There is no better place to visit if you enjoy being outdoors in a gorgeous and diverse landscape that includes moors, lakes, mountains and valleys. Days out can consist of cruising on Lake Windermere, browsing the book shops of Sedbergh and strolling around beautiful gardens and country estates.
The Fold is quiet without feeling isolated, giving visitors the peace they crave and the views for which this area is famous. The beauty of the landscape and variety of attractions make it a favourite year-round holiday destination.
