Coniston Lodge is home to two self-catering holiday apartments, Tarn Hows (featured in this advert) and Yewdale Crags (full details can be found on the owners website), which both sleep up to four guests in two en-suite bedrooms. Ideally located off a side road from the village which leads up to the Old Man Of Coniston, Coniston lodge sits adjacent to mountains and enjoys lovely views across to the crags behind the village. The lodge has been built on the side of the hill, in a similar design to an Alpine Lodge, with parking under the building and wooden fascias.
Each holiday apartment offers a home from home, well equipped in a traditional style to provide a place where you can kick-off your walking boots at the end of the day and relax. Ideal all year round with full central heating and a 'log effect' electric fire in the lounge for chilly nights, each apartment has a secluded garden area where guests can relax with their morning tea (or glass of wine) during the warmer months.
Lake Coniston is just a short walk away, where you can hire self drive motor or rowing boats. Alternatively, take a relaxing cruise on the lake with companies offering regular tips, or enjoy a nostalgic trip on National Trusts lovely restored Victorian steam yacht 'Gondola'.
The Lakes are unrivalled for their stunning mountain and lake scenery. There are plenty of attractions for all ages and outdoor activities which will take you through wonderful countryside. Coniston is a popular destination that sits in the heart of the Lake District and is a magnet for walkers and climbers, who can often be found at the end of the day gathered at one of the traditional pubs. The area offers something to suite all energy levels from a quiet walk through woodland to a more challenging hike up The Old Man or the 'classic' rock climbing routes on Dow Crags. The owner's are experienced fell walkers who will be happy to provide any advice and guidance you may require.
Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin, the 19th century critic and social, is open to the public and sits on the edge of Coniston Lake (you can take a cruise and stop-off here). Ravenglass and Eskdale railway is another popular attraction and provides a wonderful way of exploring the country side as it winds its way through seven miles of glorious scenery between the foot of England's highest mountains and the coast.
There are a number of castles, stately homes, historical buildings and gardens within easy reach of Coniston. Other attractions include: Hilltop, Beatrix Potter's home at Sawrey (five miles); Steam Boat Museum at Windermere (twelve miles); Dove Cottage, Wordsworth's home at Grasmere (eleven miles); Forestry Centre, Theatre and miles of tracks and trails for walkers and mountain bikers in Grisedale Forest (seven miles); Brockhole Lake District Visitors Centre and the new Ruskin and Coniston Village Museum; and picturesque Tarn How, for a relaxed walk and picnic.
