Rose Cottage is a heavenly holiday home in the heart of beautiful Windermere. The mid-terraced cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms and suits couples, families or friends. The owners have chosen a sophisticated decor to reflect the high standard of accommodation you can expect as soon as you walk through the door. Guests love being so close to everything with the benefit of a parking permit, and a boat shed to store your SUP, kayak or other watersport equipment. You're steps from the water and within a scenic stroll of shops, cafes, and bars - all you'll need for a stress-free self-catering Lake District holiday.
Windermere is magnificent. As the biggest natural lake in England, it has attracted visitors for centuries, but the Victorians put the town on the tourism map. They knew all about the health benefits of spending time outdoors in pristine natural surroundings and flocked here to go fell walking, mountain climbing, swimming, sailing and sightseeing. You can enjoy all the same activities and newer additions like kayaking and paddleboarding. Local attractions include the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Aquarium of the Lakes, Lakeside Pier, and the Sailing and Windsurfing Centre. Whether you promenade around the lakefront or climb to Orrest Head for panoramic views, the walks are spectacular. Brant Fell and Ambleside are two more popular destinations, but you only have to pick up a copy of Wainwright's guide to feel inspired.
While staying at Rose Cottage, you can enjoy the many delights of the Lake District. Hire a mountain bike and hit the trails at Grizedale, catch the ferry across the water to explore Far Sawrey and the western shores of Windermere, or go a bit further to Coniston and Iron Keld. Beatrix Potter was instrumental in creating the National Trust and bought up as much land around Winderemere as she could, ensuring it was protected for future generations to enjoy. Pay a visit to her home at Hill Top and visit the Beatrix Potter Exhibition in Bowness. Climb Scafell Pike, England's highest peak, or stay at water level with a gentle trip around Windermere on a Victorian steamer. Immerse yourself in a cold water swim, warming up with a flask of hot chocolate by the shore when you're done, or stay dry and go fishing instead. From climbing to snorkelling, there's no end to ways you can enjoy the Lake District.
