About Oaks Cottage

Ambleside Holiday Cottages offer a choice of three Lakeland retreats all ideally placed in the popular Cumbrian town of Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake District National Park.

Accommodating parties of four to six guests, or couples who like a little extra space around them, the cottages are available all year round and provide an ideal base for exploring the attractions that both Ambleside and Windermere have to offer, along with those throughout the national park and Cumbria.

Ambleside is popular with tourists due to is position at the northern tip of Lake Windermere. Spend your days exploring this beautiful landscape by foot or sit back on a lake cruise and soak up the beauty from the waters edge. Being England's longest lake, it's a water lovers paradise, abundant with opportunities for wildlife lovers and water sports enthusiasts, both on Windermere and nearby Coniston Lake (famed for its connections with 'Swallows and Amazons' and Donald Campbell).

Other popular lakes that are within easy driving distance are spectacular Ullswater (one of Wordsworth’s favourites and the inspiration behind 'Daffodils'), and Derwent Water, a stone's throw from Keswick with it's lovely shops to browse, places to eat and the renowned Theatre by the Lake.

For those with a passion for climbing and hiking, the cottages are well placed for exploring Scafell Pike (the country's highest mountain), Helvellyn and Skiddaw which dominates the skyline and keeps a watchful eye over this beautiful part of the Lake District. Alternatively, spend your days visiting the areas many attractions with something to satisfy all ages including the haunts of Beatrix Potter in and around Hawkshead; Wordsworth at Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage; and Brantwood to walk in the footsteps of Ruskin and enjoy the lovely setting alongside Coniston Lake.

There's plenty for the little ones too with the Pencil Museum and Climbing Wall in Keswick, the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness and Grizedale Forest with its tracks, trails (great for mountain bike enthusiasts) and treetop adventures to name just a few.
