We want No.2 Roseville to be like a home from home and we have provided all we think you will need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Whatever you want from your stay, No.2 Roseville has much to offer. It's a great base to fell walk, rock climb, pony trek, golf, cycle, canoe & kayak and be adventurous in the great outdoors. Or you may simply want to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings, wander the fells and unspoilt beaches of the western coast, eat and drink, take pictures and explore at a leisurely pace, the options are all there. The cottage is a great base to explore this amazing area.
No.2 Roseville is in the heart of the village and amenities can be easily accessed on foot. Gosforth is a quiet village in the lesser known, Western Lake District. Our little village has much to offer right on the doorstep. Village amenities are a short walk away, including pubs, bakery, a café, village shop, an Italian restaurant, a beauty salon, a hairdressers, play park and playing field, library link and a garage.
The stunning valley of Wasdale is a ten minute drive away, home to Wastwater, England's deepest lake, Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain and the smallest church of St Olaf's. The valley has some great pubs, the Sawmill café and the Barndoor shop outdoor shop at the head of the valley. A great place for bagging Wainwrights.
The valley of Eskdale is also only a 15 minute drive away, with an abundance of river, tarn and fell walks. Some great swim spots. Here you will find the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway - a popular miniature railway that travels seven scenic miles to Ravenglass. It's a great way to see and explore the valley between the coastal village of Ravenglass to Dalegarth in Eskdale. You can hop on and off at the stops along the way. From Dalegarth you can walk to Eskdale Mill, Stanley Ghyll Force and St Catherine’s Church along with many other routes. There are pubs, cafes and play areas at each end of the line and of course stunning natural scenery.
Muncaster Castle, Gardens and Owl Centre is ten minutes away, set in amazing surroundings and gardens and steeped in history, it has lots going on all year round for all ages.
We are also a 30 minute drive from Ennerdale Water, the most westerly lake in the Lake District National Park and the most remote, so it offers, even in high season, a place to escape and you can walk right round it. Travel there over Cold fell, you can enjoy fell pony trekking here.
There are many lovely walks locally that take in the village and its' surrounding natural beauty. At the end of the little Roseville terrace you can take in the view of Wasdale valley and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, know as one of Britain's favourite views. You can visit St Mary's Church with the historic Viking cross. Walk around the Blengdale Forest or take one of the many footpaths. Venture along the Viking way - a multi-use path between our village and the coastal village of Seascale on the Cumbrian Coastal Line with trains to Carlisle north & Barrow/Lancaster south. Or hop in the car and the beautiful valleys of Wasdale and Eskdale are a stones throw away, along with many other beautiful local villages.
