About Fairoak

Fairoak will be your home-from-home while you discover the many wonders of Windermere and the Lake District National Park. The self-catering holiday home sleeps five people in three bedrooms and is just outside Windermere's main shopping area, a minute from shops, cafes and pubs, and half a mile from the train station. It is ideal for couples or families, including those who don't have a car or would prefer to explore without one. Those who drive will appreciate the off-street parking, especially in the busy spring and summer seasons when parking is at a premium in Windermere.

Windermere attracts people of all ages and backgrounds. What they all have in common is a love of being outdoors. Windermere is the starting point for some of the region's most spectacular walks. These include Orrest Head, Gummer’s How, Wansfell Pike, Loughrigg, and Stockghyll Force. A walking and cycling route encompasses the circumference of the lake, and there are endless opportunities for sailing, paddleboarding, fishing, swimming and kayaking. Regular ferries stop at Ambleside, Bowness, Brockhole and Lakeside. Use it to see the Motor Museum, Lakes Aquarium, and other attractions.

The Lake District is one of the UK's most popular holiday destinations. How can you argue with more than 15 million people who come to discover the sublime beauty of England's highest mountain and deepest lake? However busy the season, you can always find a quiet spot to sit and admire views so stunning they will settle into your soul. It's no surprise that the landscape has inspired writers and artists for centuries. One such person was Beatrix Potter. The author lived on the other side of Windermere, and it's her garden you see in the illustrations for so many of her books, including The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Learn more about her life, artistic work, and legacy as a National Trust founding member at The World of Beatrix Potter. You can also see her house, Hill Top. Romantic poet William Wordsworth also lived in and loved the Lake District. He lived in Grasmere and wrote "Daffodils" after walking beside Ullswater in spring.

Staying at Fairoak, which is so comfortable and convenient, means you can easily get around to see and do everything you want without being limited to a rural bus service or driving everywhere.
