Ellers Cottage is the perfect fit for families and friends on holiday in the Lake District. With space for five people in three bedrooms together with a relaxed, open-plan living room and a private south-facing garden, the cottage is just a five minute walk to Loughrigg Tarn (and the path to climb Loughrigg Fell) and just two miles from Ambleside.
The Lake District National Park attracts millions of visitors every year, many of whom come to enjoy walking through the spectacular scenery. Ellers Cottage is in an ideal location for exploring as it sits close to Loughrigg Fell and a great walk on a clear day is over the top of the fell to Loughrigg Terrace and to Rydal Cave. It is possible to walk to Ambleside and Grasmere where there is a good variety of places to shop, eat and drink. There are also buses from the main road that take you up and down the valley to Langdale and Ambleside. Cycling is another favourite way to enjoy the scenery, and there are lots of bridleways and cycle paths nearby.
There is certainly no shortage of ways to have fun when you stay at Ellers Cottage. Within just a few miles, visitors have the opportunity to play golf, fish, go bouldering, sail, kayak or walk along a high ropes course. The beauty of the Lake District has inspired some of Britain's most beloved writers and artists including William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, the latter of whom was instrumental in establishing the Lake District as a National Park and protecting this stunning landscape for future generations to enjoy. There are several museums dedicated to their lives nearby, including their respective former homes, Dove Cottage and Hill Top.
Visitors can spend every day of their holiday doing something different, whether it is walking through woodland made famous in Wordsworth's poems, chugging across the water of Windermere on a vintage steamboat, or browsing through boutiques and gift shops. The scenery is spectacular in any weather with something for everyone whether they love the physical challenge of scaling a mountain or prefer a gentle woodland stroll followed by afternoon tea or a pint of local ale in front of a pub fireplace (the Talbot Pub at Skelwith Bridge is within a mile walk, as is the Skelwith Bridge Hotel and Restaurant and Chester's Cafe and shop serving wonderful home-made cakes and snacks).
Staying at Ellers Cottage makes it easy to appreciate why the Lake District has been a favourite holiday for generations.
