About Dairy Cottage

Dairy Cottage is a welcoming Lake District holiday home with sensational views. Located in the Cumbrian village of Skelsmergh in the South Lakeland district, it sleeps four people in two double bedrooms and is ideal for friends or families with children over the age of ten. The owners have turned their traditional stone barn into a stylish self-catering cottage with a balcony to enjoy looking over fields and countryside towards Kendal.

Skelsmergh is convenient for some of the top attractions in the Lake District. However, being tiny and tucked out of the way means you can immerse yourself in the landscape, take in the sights, and return home to a blissfully quiet evening where it's just you, the starry night sky, and maybe the occasional hooting of an owl. Skelsmergh gets very little passing traffic yet is far from isolated. You're less than three miles from the vibrant market town of Kendal with major supermarkets, boutiques, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The Lake District has inspired artists and writers for generations, and Kendal's galleries show the influence of the landscape is as strong as ever. The locals love to celebrate, planning a fun calendar of events centred around walking, cycling, culture, food, and music.

No Lake District holiday is complete without a trip to Windermere. Measuring 10.5 miles long and plunging 220 feet, it's the biggest lake in England and a top spot for sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, and swimming. Take a sightseeing cruise on a Victorian paddle steamer or buy a ticket on a hop-on-hop-off boat to see Wray Castle, Ambleside, and Brockhole at your leisure. Other Lake District attractions are Sizergh Castle, the Lakeland Museum, Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum, the World of Beatrix Potter, and the Ruskin Museum.

Dairy Cottage is ideally located for a walking or cycling holiday in the Lake District. It's also great if you're not so keen on yomping across the fells and want to spend your days visiting tea rooms, country houses and museums. Dairy Cottage is available for holiday bookings all year round, with short breaks (minimum of three nights) possible depending on availability.

Accommodation Comprises:

The owners have taken great care to furnish Dairy Cottage in a way that feels welcoming for guests, creating a comfortable space while retaining the charm and character of the original building. Accommodation is over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Modern country kitchen/diner with garden views. It's well-equipped for self-catering, featuring all of the typical appliances, equipment and utensils to cook and serve meals for four people. There's also a washing machine for your convenience. A solid wood dining table seats four people. The owners thoughtfully provide a welcome hamper with tea, coffee, sugar, milk, wine and cereal, so if you arrive at night, you don't have to worry about finding food in the morning.
  • Bedroom One has a double bed, bedside tables with reading lights, a Smart TV with Freeview and Netflix , and lots of storage. The original stone floor is warmed with soft rugs, and the window shutters open to reveal lovely views.
  • Bedroom Two is similarly furnished with a double bed and proper storage. It has oak flooring and a door opening into the garden. Beds will be made up for your arrival, and bath towels are provided.

Upstairs:

  • You'll love spending time in the living room. The high ceilings and comfy sofas would make it nice even without the stunning views through the French doors onto the first-floor balcony where you can sit in rattan chairs and watch the sunset, staying out to admire the spectacular night skies. Indoors, there's a 50-inch TV with Freeview channels and Netflix, puzzles, books and games.
  • Luxuriate in the bathroom's deep rolltop bath in the large bathroom, where there's also a walk-in shower, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: As well as the first-floor balcony, the cottage has a private courtyard garden with lots of plants and an outdoor table and chairs. Guests have parking for two cars.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen, and bath towels are included. The owner provides a hamper to welcome guests. Smoking is not permitted. The owner regrets they cannot accept pets or children under ten years old.
