Chester’s Lodge is a fantastic, modern, luxurious self-catering holiday home in the Lake District National Park. Set in a peaceful location and just 300 metres from the water on the southern shore of Lake Coniston in the private Lake Bank Estate. With space for up to eight guests in four bedrooms, it’s ideal for families and groups who want to be close to the best of the Lake District without compromising on space or comfort.
Chester’s lodge has its own open path onto the Blawith Fells and beyond with the lovely walk to Beacon Tarn, further away, the nearest village to Chester’s Lodge is Coniston, around five miles to the north. Coniston has a stunning array of walks directly out of the village, from gentle meandering tracks to the more ambitious hike up the favourite footpath up the Old Man of Coniston noted for its exceptional mountain and water views. Mid-way between Lake Bank and Coniston is the hamlet of Torver which has with two traditional pubs serving good food and beer, a coffee shop and small deli.
Chester’s Lodge is in the south of the Lake District National Park where there are miles of footpaths and cycling trails. An easier, but no less pleasant walk goes around Tarn Hows. It is only two miles but incorporates magnificent views, and the National Trust hires mobility scooters to make it accessible to everyone.
It would be a shame to visit Coniston without a trip on the water. The Coniston Launch is a regular 45-minute cruise around the lake, or treat yourself to a memorable trip on the National Trust Steam Gondola which has been delighting tourists since the Victorian era and for which the Lake Bank jetty is a request stop. Why not take your own canoe, paddleboard or small boat to Chester’s Lodge? Access to the water is easily accessible with free and paid parking available along the western shore of the Lake. It’s also possible to hire boats and canoes so you can explore at your own pace.
Hawkshead, Ambleside, Ulverston, Bowness, Windermere and Grasmere are all about half an hour away. All the Lakeland village and towns have their own character and history, with a good variety of exceptional pubs and restaurants, great markets and shops, and always something wonderful to discover whether it’s a view or a favourite local beer on tap.
While you’re at Chester’s Lodge, you can visit the homes of great writers like Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth or John Ruskin, wander around a stately home or castle, or just recline on a lounger on the enormous deck and enjoy beautiful views of surrounding woodland.
Whether you’re a couple, a family or a group of friends putting your busy lives on hold to catch up, Chester’s Lodge is the perfect spot to do so.
