Catbells Cottage is in a peaceful location at the foot of the Catbells in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley. The one-bedroom cottage is ideal for couples or solo travellers who want the sensation of being off the well-trodden Lake District tourist track while staying only a ten-minute walk from the southern shore of Derwentwater.
Instead of starting your morning to the harsh noise of your alarm or passing traffic, your day will begin to the gentle sound of the variety of birds who live in the woods around the cottage. Forget turning the television on for the morning news - it is more interesting and enjoyable to watch native red squirrels as they go about their day as you sit on the deck with its views of the lake, Catbells and Borrowdale Fells.
The Lake District National Park deserves its status as one of the country's most popular holiday destinations but that does not mean visitors want to share its footpaths with crowds of people. One of the benefits of staying at Catbells Cottage is that Derwentwater and the fells can be reached on foot via a route from the garden, giving guests a choice of walks to suit their ability whether they want to scale the 451-metre peak to the top of Catbells or walk along the 10-mile flat path around the lake's circumference.
Grange-in-Borrowdale is a mile away but Keswick is the nearest town to Catbells Cottage, being around a 15-minute drive or 90-minute walk north of the house. It is a lively market town with a supermarket, shops, cafes and museums. Bike hire is available in Keswick, which is close enough to the Whinlatter Forest for a fun day out. Local attractions include golf courses, Go Ape, Honister Slate Mine and the Keswick Launch cruises, while further afield are Scafell Pike and Cockermouth.
Any time is the ideal time for a self-catering holiday in the Lake District. The landscape is spectacular in every season and there are lots of attractions both indoors and outside to keep everyone happy. Catbells Cottage is dog-friendly and perfect whether you want an adventure-filled holiday or to put your feet up and relax in beautiful surroundings with a good book and an even better view.
