4 Mellfell View is everything you would dream a holiday cottage in the Lake District would be. From the thick stone walls built piece by piece from locally quarried stone in the 17th Century to the solid oak beams and sensational views, it will delight at every turn. The cottage is in the Lakeland village of Penruddock, off the well-trodden tourist trail yet still close to fantastic walks, including to the welcoming Herdwick Inn, 10 minutes away. The dog-friendly property sleeps four people in two bedrooms with two bathrooms and is ideal for friends, families (children 12 years and older) and couples.
Penruddock is quiet without feeling remote and perfect for anyone who wants to feel like they're getting away from it all but who doesn't like the idea of being isolated and miles from anything. Local walks include footpaths to Tarn Moss Nature Reserve, Hallin Fell, Helvellyn, Blencathra, Skiddaw and Catbells. There are also some sensational mountain bike trails within easy reach. You can find more inspiration by searching for trails around Penrith and Keswick, seven and 11 miles away from Melfell View. Ullswater is only a few miles from the cottage and easy to cycle if you'd rather not walk or drive. In addition to beautiful walks and bike rides around its shores, Ullswater is a favourite spot for sailing, fishing, paddleboarding and wild swimming.
Penrith and Keswick have an excellent variety of places to eat, drink and shop, so you will have no trouble filling the fridge. Keswick also has a busy market every Thursday and Saturday. Closer to home, the excellent Cocklakes Farm Shop is just two miles down the road and stocked with local produce. Local attractions include something to keep everyone happy. Around Penrith, there is the Rheged Centre, Penrith Castle, Whinfell Forest, Lowther Castle and Gardens, and the Lakeland Birds of Prey Centre. Keswick has the Theatre by the Lake, Derwent Pencil Museum, Lake District Wildlife Park, Whinlatter Forest and Go Ape. The Honister Slate Mine, Lakes Distillery, Rookin House activity centre, and Ullswater Steamers are other options. Day trips can include the Solway Coast, Hadrian's Wall, the Eden Valley, Windermere, and the Southern Lakes.
4 Mellfell View is available all year round for bookings. You will always receive a warm welcome, no matter what season you're there.
