New Park Cottage will quickly become your family's favourite holiday destination. The pretty cottage is perfect for a rural escape in all seasons, being within walking distance of Widecombe in the Moor - one of the oldest villages in Dartmoor and home to the welcoming Rugglestone Inn and the Old Inn. There is plenty of space to spread out and relax, with three bedrooms that sleep up to six people and a good-size private garden with uninterrupted views of the rolling countryside.
Widecombe in the Moor is a lovely Dartmoor town well known for the annual horse fair it hosts every September, and by walkers who orientate themselves using the 120-foot church spire. There is a wealth of bridleways and footpaths leading from and around Widecombe, including excellent walking and cycling tracks from the gate at New Park Cottage. If you fancy something a little different, then book yourself on a llama walk guided by a local llama farmer, or take part in the Widecombe Artefact Hunt along trails that lead to places like Widecombe Hill, Hambledown Ridge, Wind Tor and the Honeybag Tor. Becky Falls Woodland Park is close by, as is Bellever Forest in Yelverton. In addition to two friendly pubs and a historic church, Widecombe also has two tea rooms, a village shop with a post office, a working forge, and a National Trust shop inside Church House.
Spend your days exploring by foot, mountain bike or horseback, the magnificent landscape that makes Dartmoor such a wonderful place to stay in any season. Nearby places to visit include Bovey Tracey. It has a good selection of shops including small supermarkets, cafes and the Devon Guild of Craftsmen building where you can view and buy works from local artists and craftspeople. Ashburton is a lovely alternative for a day out or to buy food and other provisions for your self-catering Dartmoor holiday. Family-friendly Dartmoor attractions include Buckfast Abbey, the River Dart Country Park, Dartmoor Zoo, and Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre. Pennywell Farm is a favourite with children, as are the Miniature Pony Centre, and the House of Marbles.
