North Devon is the perfect destination to enjoy some sea air and coastal walks with your four legged friends. The 3 mile stretch of golden sand and dunes at Saunton Sands, near Barnstable, has got to be the number one dog friendly beach in north Devon. There is also a large sandy beach at Woolacombe. If you are looking for something a little quieter Putsborough Beach is great for long walks and it also includes some year round dog friendly sections. Or enjoy spectacular cliff top views on the National Trust–managed Baggy Point Easy Access Walk. For a change of scenery head to the moorland and woods in Exmoor National Park or enjoy a beautiful riverside walk through woodlands which finishes at a dramatic pebble cove at Heddon Valley and nearby Heddon's Mouth. The disused railway line along the Tarka Trail is also a popular spot to walk or cycle with your dogs.
Other dog friendly days out in north Devon include the infamous Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway – a fully water-powered historic funicular railway connecting the two coastal towns. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome to ride on the lower deck for a small fee. If you fancy stretching your legs you can also walk to the prehistoric Vally of Rocks, a dramatic U-shaped valley near Lynton. Dogs on leads can join you on a family day out at the theme park at Watermouth Castle near Ilfracombe and The Milky Way Adventure Park near Bideford. Dogs can also enjoy a day out at the beautiful Arlington Court near Barnstaple. Featuring over 20 miles of dog-friendly footpaths as well as formal grounds there is plenty to explore.
The large number of dog friendly pubs and cafes means that there is plenty of opportunity to sample a traditional cream tea (the Devon way obviously!). You and your four-legged friends will love a getaway in north Devon and our large number of dog friendly cottages to rent is sure to get those tails wagging!
