This stylish holiday cottage is a converted barn attached to the owner’s main holiday home (see separate advert). It accommodates up to four guests in two bedrooms (plus two bathrooms!) and can also be rented together with the main house for up to 16 people (it is available on its own only during low season mid-week). Perfect for families, friends and also couples who enjoy some extra space around them, the barn is a great self-catering base for exploring the many attractions of the Lake District National Park.
Sitting on the edge of the pretty Cumbrian village of Penny Bridge, Hill Top Barn is a short drive (just five miles) from Coniston Water with Lake Windermere just six miles away, both providing a good range of water sports and outdoor activities in the surrounding areas. The barn is also an ideal retreat - a place to simply relax and unwind in a rural setting away from the hustle and bustle of more busy tourist traps.
Guests can enjoy the peace of this secluded position (accessed via a single-track lane), yet the convenience of local shops (garage, pub, baker, grocery store and butcher) at Greenodd which is only a mile away.
For those who can tear themselves away, there are plenty of places to visit and things to do in and around the area. The Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway is only three miles from the cottage where you can take a train ride to Lakeside and visit the Aquarium of the Lakes, Stott Park Bobbin Mill, or catch a ferry to Ambleside or Windermere. Hop on the foot ferry at Lake Bank (a short car trip from the barn ) and visit Coniston village and tackle the Old Man if you have the energy! Explore the area by bike on one of the offroad cycle routes that are near the barn or seek thrills in Grizedale Forest with its tracks and trails for mountain bikers and tree-top adventures at Go Ape. Alternatively for something a little more sedate, enjoy a round of golf at one of the country's most scenic courses in Bowness-on-Windermere or visit the homes of Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin and William Wordsworth and discover the beauty that provided so much inspiration for their works.
Whether you are looking for a relaxing break, a walking holiday or want to explore the Lake District, Hill Top Barn provides a welcoming retreat at any time of the year.
