Rutter Falls Holiday Cottages afford a spectacular position sitting at the base of a lovely waterfall (wild-swimming available in the deep pool below) in the picturesque Eden Valley in Cumbria within easy reach of the Lake District National Park. Offering a choice of two delightful holiday cottages (Ford Cottage as featured in this advert and The Watermill) this is a perfect self-catering getaway for couples (one or two) whatever the time of the year.
The site that the cottages sit on is of historical interest, dating back to the 16th Century, and nestles within its own secluded valley The perfect place to relax and unwind, this wildlife haven offers guests the chance to sit and watch red squirrels, dippers, heron, kingfishers, gold crest and deer to name just a few. You may even see spawning salmon at the right time of year or, if you are lucky, the notoriously shy otter which is a relative newcomer to Rutter Falls.
The Eden Valley is one of the 'jewels' in Cumbria's crown and certainly one of its best kept secrets. Beautiful lush green meadows and rolling countryside, criss crossed with dry stone walls and edged with hedgerows provide a real sense of space and tranquility. Quiet little roads are a delight to discover for cyclists and the countryside and fells offer endless walking opportunities.
Close by are the market towns of Appleby and Kirkby Stephen where you will find historic buildings and a good selection of independent shops to browse offering antiques, crafts and local specialties for stocking up on provisions. Within easy reach you also have the Northern Lakes, North Cumbria, the beautiful Pennines and the Scottish Borders a little further afield - all providing great days out.
If you enjoy walking and cycling, would like to discover the many attractions of the Eden Valley, or simply want to escape to a beautiful setting for some rest and relaxation, look no further.
