Croft House sits in the village of Redmire in Wensleydale, looking out towards Penhill. It sleeps 4 guests across 2 bedrooms and welcomes dogs, so it works well for a relaxed break with family or friends. There's the well-known Redmire Village Pub just a minute’s walk away, and it's the sort of place you'll end up visiting more than once. Inside, the cottage keeps its traditional feel but doesn’t feel dated. It's comfortable for couples and families, easy to settle into and has just enough character to remind you where you are without getting in the way.
Redmire has a steady, lived-in feel rather than being geared towards visitors. You’ll notice it in the quiet lanes, the pace of the village and the way people stop to chat. Bolton Castle is close enough to walk to and gives you something to explore without needing to get in the car. Leyburn is about ten minutes away and has a bit more going on, with independent shops, cafés and a weekly market. It’s a useful place to pick up supplies or spend a slow morning wandering around.
Wensleydale feels more open than some of the neighbouring dales, with wider views and gentler slopes in places. Aysgarth Falls is nearby and worth seeing after rain when the water is moving quickly. There are plenty of walking routes from the village if you don't want to drive, or you can head further afield and explore at your own pace. Swaledale is close by, as are some of the better-known landmarks of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. You don't need a strict plan here. Most days start with a rough idea and end somewhere completely different.

Croft House is perfectly placed to explore some of the Wensleydale's most iconic spots. Aysgarth Falls, featured in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, is just a short drive away. Bolton Castle, once home to Mary, Queen of Scots during her imprisonment, is within walking distance. Nearby, a field by the River Ure, south of the village was used in filming for 28 Years Later.
