Railway Cottage is every train lover's dream holiday cottage in Somerset. Sitting next to the tracks of the historic West Somerset Steam Railway, the charming stone cottage was built by one of Britain's finest engineers, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and comfortably accommodates up to six people in three bedrooms. The friendly Bicknoller Inn is less than a mile away and the cottage has far-reaching views of nearby Exmoor National Park and Quantock Hills AONB. Couples, families and friends all rave about this cottage, which has been given a 4 Star Gold rating by Visit England.
Somerset is a fantastic holiday destination for everyone in any season. The countryside is the perfect spot to breathe fresh air and let the stress of your daily life slide from your shoulders. Walking and cycling are just two of many enjoyable ways to immerse yourself in the beauty of the landscape, with climbing, caving, horse riding and golf being a few more. Stretch your towel out on miles of lovely beaches or get a bird's eye view from clifftop coastal footpaths. Hike through the heather-covered moors or stroll along a lazy river - the choice is entirely yours.
Eating is a delight in Somerset, whether you buy ingredients to cook at the cottage, gather handfuls of finger food for a leisurely picnic or make the most of the many excellent pubs, cafes and restaurants in the region. Taunton and Dunster Castle are nearby with other local attractions including Cheddar Gorge and Caves, Haynes International Motor Museum, Wookey Hole and Caves, and Tropiquaria. Bristol is within easy reach, with an award-winning zoo as well as historic sites and lots of shops and restaurants, and you can't stay this close to the West Somerset Railway without taking at least a short journey in one of its vintage carriages.
Railway Cottage is close to its sister property, The Railway Carriage. The two are both separate and private but can be booked together to sleep up to ten people. There is more information on the owner's website.
