Newton Farm sits in peaceful countryside, a 10-minute stroll from the friendly Bicknoller Inn, where farmland stretches out towards the Quantock Hills and Exmoor National Park. With six bedrooms and space for twelve adults and two children, it’s a house that suits larger family gatherings or holidays with friends where everyone can stay under one roof without feeling on top of each other. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed rather than formal. Two log burners bring warmth in cooler months, and the living spaces are large enough for everyone to find their own corner at the end of the day. Windows look out across surrounding fields, so even when you're inside, there's a real sense of being out in the countryside. One of the bedrooms is downstairs, with flexible zip-link beds, and a shower room opposite, which many guests find helpful if someone in the group would rather not tackle the stairs.
Bicknoller itself is less than a mile from your door and has the sort of village feel that makes a holiday base even more enjoyable. The Bicknoller Inn, a traditional thatched pub at the foot of the Quantock Hills, serves food and local ales and is an easy stroll back after dinner. The community village shop is also nearby for everyday essentials. Another small detail that makes Newton Farm memorable is the West Somerset Steam Railway. The track runs just beyond the surrounding fields, and from time to time, you'll hear the distant whistle before seeing a steam train passing through the landscape with smoke drifting behind it.
It's worth making time for a trip on the railway while you're here. The West Somerset Railway is the longest heritage steam railway in the UK, running between Bishops Lydeard and the seaside town of Minehead with ten stations along the route. The nearest station is about ten minutes away by car and makes an easy day out, especially if children are visiting. The coast is also surprisingly close. Minehead, Blue Anchor Bay, and Dunster Beach are all within around ten minutes, offering everything from long beach walks to traditional seaside cafés and ice-cream stops. Inland, the Quantock Hills National Landscape and Exmoor National Park offer miles of walking routes, cycling lanes and open moorland scenery. Riders can explore the area from nearby stables, and golfers will find several courses within easy reach. After a day exploring the coast or countryside, Newton Farm feels reassuringly calm to come back to, particularly when the log burners are lit and the evening settles quietly across the surrounding fields.
