The Wheelhouse at Staveley sleeps up to six guests and is a unique Lakeland holiday home with the benefit of its very own sauna. Beautifully presented throughout, The Wheelhouse sits in the bustling village of Staveley in Cumbria. Situated close to a renowned stone retailer, as well as a good range of small businesses, The Wheelhouse at Staveley is right in the heart of it all, and just a few minutes walk to the train station, an excellent chip shop, friendly cafe, artisan bakery, the Hawkshead Brewery and Beer Hall, and the Eagle and Child pub which has an open fire.
Both the Wheelhouse at Staveley and the Weslyan Methodist Church were skilfully converted a few years back into a welcoming holiday let (the former) and residential homes (the latter). The Wheelhouse at Staveley sits to the side of a small industrial site (please note that there may be some deliveries and vehicle movements, mainly during working hours during the week) and provides ample space for relaxing with three bedrooms.
The property is as popular with friends meeting up for a holiday as it is for families who want a central base for exploring the beautiful Lake District National Park.
Staveley is on the River Kent, four miles north-west of Kendal. It has a vibrant, friendly community who are welcoming and happy to share their local knowledge with visitors who are searching for a genuine Cumbrian experience rather than merely scratching the surface of the amazing landscape and all it has to offer. The village boasts an enormous bike shop, Wheelbase, where you can hire bikes and shop from a wide range of road and mountain bike clothing and accessories. There is nowhere better to ask about the best trails to suit your ability.
The four-mile drive to Kendal takes around ten minutes, but you can also cycle, or walk along the footpath which runs beside the River Kent and through Burneside village. Kendal is a bustling market town with an artistic feel. There are excellent shops, cafes and pubs, and it is a top choice for a day out. The Kendal Museum is one of the oldest in the UK and a great place to find out more about the history of the landscape, while the Museum of Lakeland Life can show you how people have thrived here for centuries.
Staveley perfectly placed for exploring the whole Lake District, and is only five miles from Bowness-on-Windermere, which has been a hugely popular tourist destination since the mid-1800s and is graced by some lovely Victorian buildings. A good way to spend a day is on a hop-on, hop-off boat trip to Ambleside, Brockhole and Lakeside. Many visitors come to Bowness for the World of Beatrix Potter, and the town also has a beautiful church dating from the late 1400s, the vintage Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, and the Windermere Steamboat Museum.
One of the best features of The Wheelhouse at Staveley is that it caters so well for guests who want to spend their days outside, yet is very warm, comfortable and welcoming on their return. Not only does it have a secure lockup for bikes or prams, but it also has two modern shower rooms and a luxurious sauna where you can ease your aching muscles after a good day’s walking or cycling so that you are ready to do it all again the next day!
