Dragonsfell is a handsome and exceptionally spacious 5-bedroom stone mansion set over three floors, completely rebuilt on the site of a former barn just over 20 years ago. Located in a small hamlet of half a dozen properties built in the same style, Dragonsfell nestles in the rolling hills of the South Lakes. Though secluded, access is an easy three miles off the M6, and the characterful regional centre Kendal is less than 10 minutes’ drive away; there is dedicated parking for three cars. At the rear there’s a safe, secluded garden, home to a genuine Jacuzzi 7-seater and a new stone patio for dining and relaxing, all watched over by Y Gwilym, the large wooden dragon that guards the gardenside and lends its identity to the property.
Dragonsfell was chosen because it’s in a beautiful, quiet location in the heart of the countryside, with the central Lakes area just a short drive west, and the Yorkshire Dales only five miles to the east. If you’re a keen cyclist, the Sustrans 70 route passes by just 500m away. That’s on the road; if you want mountain biking it’s one of the best places in the world, with inumerable routes all over the Lakes, and specialist trail centres at Grizedale and Whinlater. There are also plenty places for less adrenalized family rides… Then of course there are the Lakes themselves, with comfortable passenger ferries and all manner of watersports should you wish to get wet. A must for families is the adventure playground and the tree trails at the lakeside Brockhole park at Windermere, or alternatively there’s the terrace of its restaurant. There are some short local walks nearby, including beautiful bluebell woods in Spring, or you can walk or bike up to skyline ridge to the east.
When you’ve done walking, cycling, sight-seeing, dining or whatever you enjoy, Dragonsfell provides a welcoming return. You can soak in the hot tub, perhaps with your unbreakable wine glass, sit in the Snug and watch the sunset, or talk about good times around the new woodburner in the main lounge we call the Ballroom, perhaps while the youngsters play games on the table in the large kitchen-diner. The gated garden provides a secure area for outdoors dining, childrens’ play, or chatting around the family-size Weber charcoal barbeque.
Digital Age facilities include a 55" smart TV, Google Nest access and heating controls, Google Play music system and ultra-fast 1Gb wifi.

Entering Dragonsfell from the garden side, through the gate, along the path, pick up your key from the keybox and enter the cosy snug, opening onto the main hall. Turn left and you are in the kitchen-diner, with a large breakfast table/relaxing area at one end and at the other the fully Bosch-equipped kitchen complete with large induction hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave and the very popular air fryer. Turn right off the hall and in you’re in the 8 by 8 metre lounge, with the main dining table to one side overlooking the garden, and relaxing sofas and chairs around the walls, allowing all to watch the large-screen TV and enjoy the cheerful warmth of the woodburner. Going back to the hall, on your right is a large airing and storage cupboard housing the pressurised hotwater cylinder, cleaning and ironing gear. At the end of the hall is this floor’s washroom with wc and basin. Downstairs to the we find the ‘second master’ bedroom with kingsize bed, a comfortable desk, the library, a clever Ikea sofabed, with level access. It’s almost a separate apartment if you want it to be. The rest of this lower ground floor is currently taken up by the double garage, where the washer dryer currently resides. The rear door opens onto the centre of the hamlet, and has two designated parking spaces there; the third is up the hill opposite the garden entrance, alongside a fourth which is shared with the other local residents.
Back upstairs, the topmost floor houses the four main house bedrooms, two bathrooms and a box room. The master bedroom (1) has a superking bed, a new ensuite with generous walk-in shower, huge built-in wardrobes (as do all the rooms save one), a dressing-table, chest of drawers and two bedside cabinets. Next off the upstairs hall is the guest bedroom (2) with a comfortable double, wardrobe, dressing and two bedside tables, and space for the comfortable fold-out bed we keep. The third bedroom (3) has twin beds and is often used by any children of the party. The fourth upstairs bedroom is cosy with a comfortable double and tall chest of drawers, good for mother and baby if they need some peace. The main family bathroom is also on this floor with separate shower, shower-bath, wc and basin.
