River Cottage is a charming period cottage in the rural hamlet of Bontnewydd in North Wales. The property started life in 1750 as two adjacent cottages and spent time as the village inn before being carefully converted to offer comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to four people in two bedrooms. It is ideal for couples or families who want a peaceful base from which to explore the countryside and coast of North Wales as well as Snowdonia National Park.
Bontnewydd is on the border of Denbeighshire and Conwy. It is surrounded by gorgeous countryside and only a few miles from the coast. It's an excellent destination for people who enjoy being active as there is no outdoor setting more fun to explore than North Wales, with its amazing beaches and spectacular mountain ranges. Walking is a simple way to appreciate the plethora of natural beauty with favourite local paths, including the Pilgrims Way which starts in Holywell making its way to Bardsey Island. Alternatively, give your feet a break and explore on a mountain bike. The Gwydir Mawr Trail is 25km of unadulterated joy, while the mountain bike routes at Betws-y-Coed are only around 20 miles away.
Local attractions include Rhyl and Prestatyn beaches, both of which are long-standing favourites for their vast stretches of sand, clean water and excellent amenities. Llandudno is another popular choice and less than half an hour away. Ever-popular, this quaint seaside town is much loved for its spectacular coastal scenery and impressive Victorian architecture. Abergele Golf Club welcomes visitors, as do half-a-dozen other clubs within a small radius of the cottage, including Denbigh Golf Club and Llannerch Park Golf Club. Other places to see include Conwy Castle, the Dyserth Waterfall, and the Rhuddlan Nature Reserve.
The friendly market town of Denbigh is under six miles from the cottage. In addition to a fantastic choice of places to eat, drink and shop, it also has a castle, a chocolate shop, and ancient stone town walls that visitors can reach via a key from either the castle, library or Glass Onion Cafe. Snowdonia National Park is close, and you can drive to Llanberris and the Snowdon Mountain Railway in under an hour. Alternatively, drive for about an hour in the opposite direction to enjoy a fantastic day of shopping and sightseeing in Liverpool, or enjoy the historic walled city of Chester.
River Cottage is ideal for couples, families or friends who want to stay in a place that is comfortable and welcoming, with good access to local attractions and within easy reach of excellent amenities.
