About The Old Police House

The Old Police House has been a part of Garsdale for over a century. The beautiful stone holiday cottage has wonderful views over the scenic Yorkshire Dales to the rear and a charming courtyard garden with a gentle stream at the front. Unlike some Victorian places, which can be economical in size, The Old Police House has generous proportions and lots of natural light. Three spacious bedrooms (one king and two double) accommodate six people, and there are two sitting rooms, a conservatory, and a kitchen fully equipped for family self-catering.

Garsdale is a gorgeous spot in the far west of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the edge of the Howgill Fells and at the foot of the mighty Pennines. You'll adore this valley if you love long walks with spectacular views and miles of scenic mountain bike trails. It's actually in Cumbria in the South Lakeland region, giving you excellent access to two of the most breathtaking national parks in Britain. Steam train aficionados will be happy to learn that the historic Settle to Carlisle Railway passes through Garsdale en route from Mallerstang Common to Dent Head. The Dandry Mire Viaduct is three miles from the cottage and is a favourite local walk.

There aren't any shops in Garsdale. However, you can buy fresh ingredients, dine out or go souvenir shopping in Hawes or Sedburgh, both six miles away. Kendal is just over half an hour's drive, as are beaches and coastal footpaths at Arnside and Grange-over-Sands. The house has a garage where you can securely store your bike, paddleboard, and other sports equipment. Windermere is close enough to access boat trips, fishing and other watersports on a day out.

You can book The Old Police House for a holiday with friends, a rural family retreat, or just when you need to escape the noise and bustle of commuting and work. The house is child and pet-friendly, with short breaks possible depending on availability.
