About Redmayne House

Redmayne House offers guests the opportunity to see how the well-to-do lived in the 18th Century. Located in the Cumbrian market town of Kirkby Stephen, the Grade-II listed Georgian beauty exudes period glamour in every room. The owners have skillfully managed the grand proportions and elegant features with contemporary features and luxuries to create a place where families and friends can gather comfortably. The spacious holiday home accommodates 17 guests in eight bedrooms, each beautifully decorated with a country house hotel atmosphere. Accommodation is spread over four levels and includes a kitchen with every feature you need for self-catering. Redmayne House is perfect for long weekend house parties, hen parties, celebrations with friends and Christmas with your extended family.

Kirkby Stephen couldn't be in a better location for your house party. It sits beside the River Eden and boasts an impressive array of independent bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. This region is a favourite with hikers who love that it's within touching distance not only of the North Pennines AONB but also the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District national parks. Redmayne House is dog-friendly, meaning you and your pup can explore the impressive network of footpaths, including a route from Smardale Gill to the four Eden Viaducts. Alternatively, save your feet and climb aboard the historic Settle to Carlisle Railway. There is a railway heritage museum in Kirkby Stephen for anyone interested in railway history and memorabilia. Day trips can include a 20-mile drive through scenic countryside to Kendal. Stop for lunch and a spot of shopping, or continue to Ambleside, Windermere or Grasmere, taking in some of the best-known sights of the Lake District.

Redmayne House is ideal for hosting an intimate wedding or celebrating a milestone birthday. It's perfect for Christmas when it's lavishly decorated in a traditional style, and lovely in summer when the half-acre walled garden is bursting with colour. Guests appreciate that, despite its grandeur, the house feels homely and comforting, with spacious rooms for entertaining and quiet nooks (including a summerhouse with a hot tub) to sneak away for some quiet time.

Accommodation Comprises:

Redmayne House is a luxurious Grade II townhouse close to the centre of historic Kirkby Stephen. Most of the house was built in 1787 with the oldest wing dating back to the middle of the 17th Century. It's full of charming original features from top to bottom, including an unorthodox layout that's perfect for a game of hide-and-seek!

Ground Floor:

  • Open the mint green front door to reveal a spacious, welcoming entrance hall with original decorative tiles and elegant cornices which set the tone and let you know that you're staying somewhere special.
  • Cooking in the kitchen is a pleasure. Original flagstone floors are polished with years of use, and the huge sash window lets in lots of natural light. Although it looks rustic, with Shaker-style cupboards, a ceramic butler's sink, and a square pine breakfast table, all of the appliances are modern and efficient to make light work of catering for a hungry houseful. A separate utility room has laundry and cleaning facilities.
  • There is an impressive four reception rooms on the ground floor. You'll spend a lot of time relaxing in the living or the sitting rooms, both have ample seating and a cosy fire.
  • The snug is ideal for escaping for a peaceful chat or for doing some work.
  • A formal dining room has timber floors, a fireplace, and powder blue panelled walls reflecting the light flooding through the large window.
  • There's a games room with a pool table and board games for fun on a rainy day or after dinner.
  • Relax in the hot tub in the garden room and enjoy leafy views in all weather.
  • Cloakroom with a WC and handbasin.

First Floor:

All eight bedrooms are on the upper three levels. Each one is beautifully furnished, and the beds feature high-quality bedding and bed linen.

  • Bedroom One: superking (6ft-wide) or two full-sized single beds, depending on your preference. Ensuite shower room.
  • Bedroom Two: king-sized (5ft-wide) bed and ensuite shower room.
  • Bedroom Three: triple room with either three single or one superking and one single bed. Ensuite with a bath, walk-in shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Bedroom Four: king-sized bed and an ensuite shower room.

Second Floor:

  • Bedroom Five: Superking or twin single beds and an ensuite with a shower over the bath, WC and handbasin.
  • Bedroom Six: Standard double (4ft 6in) bed.
  • Family bathroom with a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Top Floor:

  • Bedroom Seven: Double bed and an ensuite shower room. Jack and Jill doors connect the ensuite with Bedroom Eight.
  • Bedroom Eight: Twin single beds. The top floor works well as a family suite.
