Maple Cottage is a delightful self-catering cottage in a peaceful setting in Cumbria. Set back from a quiet road with beautiful views, it is just the place for couples or solo travellers who want a quiet but conveniently located base from which to explore the many attractions of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. There is even a welcoming pub, the Heversham Hotel, within walking distance.
It is always the right time to visit Cumbria and Lancashire. This part of northern England is a breathtaking blend of mountains, lakes, forests and beaches, delivering something for everyone in every season. Walking and cycling are two of the many ways people choose to discover the scenic landscape, and the opportunities around Maple Cottage are plentiful with footpaths from the door. A short stroll away is Levens Hall - a magnificent Elizabethan house with gorgeous gardens that date from 1690, river frontage and a deer park. Alternatively, go birdwatching at the RSPB reserve in Leighton Moss.
Days out can feature a trip to the lively market town of Kendal where there is an excellent choice of places to eat, drink and shop, as well castles, museums and an art gallery. Beautiful Windermere, the biggest of the Lakes and an enormously popular destination is only a 20-minute drive away, with plenty of activities to enjoy both on and off the water. Cartmel is a lovely place to see, as are Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle and Grange Over Sands.
In addition to its incredible landscape and fascinating history, the region is renowned for the quality of its food. Though the cottage is well-equipped for self-catering, guests should still plan for a few meals out in the excellent pubs, cafes and restaurants dotted around the area.
Whether you're escaping the rat race for a week away all to yourself, or whisking your other half away for a romantic break in the countryside, Maple Cottage is a welcoming, peaceful place to be.
