Clifford Courtyard feels as joyful as catching up with an old friend. Built from locally quarried stone with original flagstone floors and space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms, the semi-detached cottage is ideal for a family holiday or a relaxing break with your partner or friends. It is especially popular with walkers who love its proximity to the North Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, combined with a peaceful location in Brough village near Kirkby Stephen. You're within a short stroll from the village shop, cafe, Golden Fleece pub, and picturesque Swindale Beck, putting all you need for a self-catering stay nearby.
Brough is in the Eden Valley. It's a stunning part of the world with an ancient landscape shaped by nature and the generations of families who have farmed it over the centuries. There's nowhere nicer for a walk than over the craggy fells or beneath a canopy of forest leaves. There is a route to suit everyone, from gentle trails beside meandering rivers to challenging peak climbs that will leave you feeling on top of the world. Whether you walk, cycle or drive, we recommend visiting Britain's highest pub, the Tan Hill Inn in Long Causeway, which was the venue for the nation's most famous lock-in.
You don't need to be into walking or mountain biking to enjoy a holiday at Clifford Courtyard. Attractions within a small radius include Brough Castle and church, and the 16th Century watermill and walled gardens at Acorn Bank. Enjoy a picnic by the Long Meg and Her Daughters stone circle or take a scenic journey on the Settle to Carlisle Railway. The Bowes Museum is an absolute must-see for anyone interested in fashion, design, and French chateaux. Sedburgh, Appleby-in-Westmorland and Barnard Castle are great for shopping and lunch.
Clifford Courtyard offers a warm welcome to guests in all seasons. It's completely self-contained but the owners are just next door if you have any questions about the cottage or the local area.
