Hill Top Cottage in Appletreewick. Is there a more charming sounding self-catering holiday home? Tucked away in the village of Appletreewick in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with roses climbing over the door, Hill Top Cottage is a Grade-II listed beauty in Wharfedale with space for six people to sleep in three bedrooms. It's ideal for families but not so big that couples wouldn't also feel welcome. Guests are surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in England, with footpaths leading beside the River Wharfe, along the Dales Way, and across the hills above Appletreewick. The village has two pubs: the New Inn and Craven Arms.
Appletreewick is the perfect place to stay whilst on holiday in the Yorkshire Dales, and there is just so much to do in the area, whatever your age and whatever your interests are. The River Wharfe is popular for a walk and a favourite with anglers who fly fish for brown trout and grayling along the six-mile stretch of water that passes Appletreewick. There are plenty of walks right from the front door. Most of the Dales’ other walking highlights are only a short drive.
Local attractions include Bolton Abbey, Hesketh Farm, Parcevall Hall and Gardens, Billy Bob's Ice Cream Parlour at Halton East, Grassington (the filming location for "All Creatures Great and Small"), and the steam railway at Embsay. Harewood House, UNESCO World Heritage site Fountains Abbey, the Forbidden Corner, and the gardens at Newby Hall and Harlow Carr are within an easy drive. Skipton is a fantastic market town with an impressive castle and lots of independently owned places to eat, drink and shop. Fans of the Brontë sisters can make a beeline for Haworth, around 20 miles south of Appletreewick, to see where the authors lived and worked. Castle Howard is around an hour and a half by car, as is the stunning city of York with its winding lanes and magnificent minster.
The Dales are sublime in all seasons. There is a huge variety of places to walk, cycle and mountain bike, a wonderful array of attractions, and a warm welcome wherever you go.
